Ecowitt Gateway + Console
« on: June 13, 2025, 03:26:58 PM »
I am half-way through setting up my PWS with the GW3000 gateway.

Usually every morning one of the first things I do is check the temperature outside before taking the dogs out for a walk.
I usually do this on an old indoor/outdoor thermometer in the bathroom.
Now I realize that I need my phone every time to get the same information.

My question is as follows:
If I have my rain/temp/wind sensors setup using the GW3000 gateway and I decide to add a console at some future point -
  • Do I need to re-add my sensors to the console all over again? Or can the console just use my ecowitt account info and show the data?
  • If I need to add the sensors to the console too, then will the ecowitt.net account show 2 identical pieces of data (for the same sensor), one forwarded by the gateway and a duplicate forward by the console?
  • Are there any ecowitt consoles that do not act as a gateway?

Thanks for any replies - I couldn't get this confusion sorted out from the product pages/user manuals.

In short. If you buy a display console , yes .. you need to add  all the sensors to it (rather easy actually, usually). They are separate devices . But, you don't need the display console to send out unless you want it to. So no, it won't duplicate data on Ecowitt.net, unless you have the new console send to it. And you do not need to have it send out to Ecowit.net for the display console to work.

Another option, is to buy a cheap tablet , and just have it display the webpage from the device or Ecowitt.net ( there are a lot of different options here, the tablet could actually use other methods to view your data, etc, but I'm keeping it simple) . Other words, the tablet would act like your phone and display the same thing, yet you use it as a static display, and mount it somewhere

Others are going to chime in with more complicated options, templates on how you want the data, and a lot depends on your skill set. I'm just giving simple answers to your questions.

Edit: What I mean by using a tablet in the most simplest sense , as all you would have it do is display the web page, all the time. You would need to change the settings on the tablet to not go to sleep, or turn off the display (simple actually). I use the same method to have a permanent display of my security cameras which is also a web page.

Thanks for your reply. At the moment I am not to keen on the tablet idea - as it will need a wire to keep it powered up etc. What would be ideal is a display that is like a small photo-frame and just mounted on the wall - without needing external power.

Wrt what I can do - I have a background in electronics and SW (both as a hobby/work) so I am tempted to build something like this -

which would give me a project to work on and keep me engaged for a few months.
