WS68 after 3 yers
« on: June 12, 2025, 03:55:25 AM »
3 years of use of the Ecowitt WS68 sensor. Placed outside since purchase, no battery change so far. The photo shows what the anemometer bracket looks like. The top layer has almost no black paint, just bare aluminum. I wonder how this affects the sensor's solar readings.

For comparison, an 11-year-old Davis anemometer.

Ecowitt, you'll invest in better paint.

I too have a WS68. Mine has been installed since 2020 (5 years), still on the original batteries, and I have had no reason to even set up a ladder to get a closer look at it. Working well!

FYI, if the images in the post above look funny (sideways), for me, once I click on them they turn 90 degrees and take a 'normal' orientation. :)

before you ask for better paint you will first have to establish if and how much (whether beyond the specified accuracy tolerance) impact there really is.
For that you might need a new one put close to the old one and compare the readings .... 8-)
Looking at the potential reflecting surface this might not be worth the effort. ;)

My WS68 looks about the same. Thought about adding some black paint to cover the fade.
