I have been running Task Scheduler to handle both my NWS-Alerts and River page routines for years without any issues. Both quit working on 1/27/2023 yet I've made no changes to any of the routines. The only possibility is that Windows 10 did an update on 1/26/2023. It was KB4023057: Update for Windows Update Service components and both tasks ran fine afterwards until around mid-morning on Jan 27th.

Here is what I am seeing: when I start-up my computer or manually start the tasks, both the NWS-Alerts and River routines are kicked-off correctly, via separate tasks, and the logs show a successful launch and completion of both tasks. The data they handle is also updated as expected. Each of them are set to run every 5-minutes indefinitely. Now, all I see is the initial start and completion of the tasks but nothing afterwards. As I mentioned, I can manually trigger each of them and they run just fine without error. Neither of them will automatically repeat.

I must be missing something here but not sure what that could be. Any suggestions or pointers would be appreciated.

I had been running dozens of tasks with Windows Task Scheduler for years when it started failing, for no apparent reason. Upon posting the issue, a couple of forum members suggested using the free version of System Scheduler from Splinterware (https://www.splinterware.com/products/scheduler.html). It has been running all my tasks flawlessly for many months now and I've found it more user friendly. I'm running Win 11 and I think the other forum users that advised me were using Win 10 and or 7.

A big thumbs-up to System Scheduler.  Very reliable and not susceptible to anything Windows Update does.

Same here - big thumbs up for System Scheduler  [tup] I've been running it for years without any problems.

Thanks for the suggestion! I have downloaded the FREE version Splinterware's System Scheduler and it is working perfectly (so far). I would still like to understand why Task Scheduler stopped working since it had worked perfectly for me for many years without any issues.

One more thing about System Scheduler is that it will automatically restart on a system reboot. The install routines put a startup command in the Task Manager's Startup list. Additionally, System Scheduler does not have an option to run something every 5 minutes but you can imitate that easily using the hourly schedule and then entering the exact minutes you want things to run.

It's a very nice package and easy to setup. There are also logfiles that capture all events so you can review them to see if there have been any issues.
