WH57 Lightning voltage symbol - Ecowitt website
« on: January 26, 2023, 04:15:39 PM »
WH57 lightning sensor
Just wondering why they decided to display a battery symbol instead of the actual voltage reading on the Ecowitt site ?
They should display all sensor voltages ( that's what I would like to keep an eye on )
Also missing the lightning voltage graph etc...

Hi!

The voltage is not output uniformly for the sensors. Some sensors actually output a voltage value, others only have a binary value (0/1) and still other sensors use a level system from 0 (empty) to 5 (full) such as the WH57.
Where there are no voltage values, of course none can be displayed.

Addendum:

The battery values of the individual sensors are displayed differently - probably because it is a "grown system".
Some sensors only send the status 0/1 for OK/alarm. Others send a battery level of 0..5 - 5 corresponds to "full" and the lower the value, the lower the battery level. In addition, there are also sensors that can output the current battery voltage in volts.
With the WH45 there is also an indicator for mains voltage - the 6 at the battery level.

Sensors that output 0/1 alarm:
  • WH65 (wh65batt)
  • WH31 (battN where N=1..8)
  • WH32 (wh26batt)
  • WH32B (wh25batt)
  • WH55 (wh55batt)
Sensors with battery level output (1..5(6)):
  • WH57 (wh57batt)
  • WH41 (pm25battN where N=1..4)
  • WH43 (pm25battN where N=1..4)
  • WH45 (co2batt - reports 6 with external power supply)
  • WH55 (leakbattN where N=1..4)
Sensors with volt output:
  • WH51 (soilbattN where N=1..8)
  • WH40¹ (wh40batt)
  • WS68 (wh68batt)
  • WN34 (tf_battN where N=1..8)
  • WN35 (leaf_battN where N=1..8)
  • WS80² (wh80batt)
  • WS90² (wh90batt)
  • WN1980C (console_batt)
¹ there was a hardware revision of the WH40 that could NOT transmit the battery status (only a constant value of 1.6V is sent), Ecowitt sells a new revision since April 2021 that transmits the correct battery signal
² the WS80/WS90 contains two batteries and therefore also shows a higher volt number

Is there a way to tell which WH40 is revised and which isn't?  I'm going to assume mine is the older model since the voltage only flips between 1.6 and 1.5 for the past few months.

Hi kheller2.

this probably deserves its own topic.

But in short , the original version of the wh40, do not report battery status at all, zip, nada

I would try putting an old, almost expired/discharged battery in it and see if the voltage value changes.
I have an old one and it reports 1.6 V all the time.
In the end the console reports ...
