Greetings everyone, I'm new here.

I live in Portugal and in October 2021 I acquired a weather station that could send data to the internet. I opted for the Sainlogic WS3500, and it has worked very well, with data being sent to Ecowitt, Wunderground, WOW, Weathercloud and Awekas.

However, I've always wanted to visualize this data in a different way, directly on the PC, in applications like Cumulus for example, but unfortunately that possibility doesn't exist, I think.

Today I read a topic on this forum and I had the idea of downloading WeatherSmartIP from the Ecowitt website in an attempt to see if eventually, due to the fact that Sainlogic WS3500 = Froggit WH3000SE, this could work and I could visualize the data in that application.

At the beginning, it appears to me to select an IP address, in my case two appear, but none correspond to the console of my station, even though it is connected to the same WiFi as the console and the WSView Plus application. One of the IP addresses was something similar to the one indicated in the WSView Plus app, and after selecting it, no information appeared on the panel, but the name of the station appeared in the footer (EasyWeather - WIFIxxxx), although with failures sometimes, but I couldn't do more nothing. In the station settings, when I configure the update interval, the message "enter a number" appears, but it ends up failing.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Waiting for answers.

OK, I Tried that app, not impressed and old.
The entries you saw when trying to select one, were actually from the PC you were running from, not the console for the system, and you can't manually enter the IP of your console.

If you then allow the program to open after having selecting something previously (your PC IP) , you can go to system, (wait a minute or so), and it will populate with your console in the list, you can then select that. And it will recognize it.

Unfortunately, it won't display any values, so a total waste of time. Relaunching the app, makes you go through it all again. So again, total waste of time

For PC use, you are better off going to the web page for one of the weather services you are subscribing to.

you can use CumulusMX with your console.
You have to use the HTTP(Ecowitt) station type in CMX and configure the custom server of your console ("Customized") in WS View Plus

the WH2910 console (Froggit WH3000SE) is not meant to work with WeatherSmartWiFi or WeatherSmartIP - only the WS2320E (Froggit WH4000SE);
the WH2910 console doesn't have an API to be called by WeatherSmartWiFi/IP.
our MUST READ thread would have told you https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=40730.0 (look at the matrix)
But CumulusMX, weewx, Meteobridge can receive data from the WH2910/WH3000SE.

Hello again, and thanks for the tip.

I followed the steps you said. I started by downloading Cumulus MX v.3215 (latest version) and copying the folder to the programs folder. I opened the "CumulusMX" executable and then a kind of command prompt opened, which said to put one of those links in the browser, in my case Chrome.
Then a "configuration" opened, and I think I did everything right, even in WSView Plus.

Then, I entered the new link that appeared in the prompt, and then I entered the "page" of my station. Very chic I say!

However, everything appears to zeros, I don't know what I did wrong. I even tried to configure it again but I'm afraid of making the situation worse.
Do you have any idea how to fix it?

Thanks

Hi,
Quote
I started by downloading Cumulus MX v.3215 (latest version) and copying the folder to the programs folder.

Quote
From Cumulus WiKi
There is one place, where you must not store MX, and that is "avoid the 'Program File' hierarchy"
It is suggested to install such as C:\CumulusMX

If you have it reinstalled as advised and used the Config Wizard to do the basic setup, and then a stop and restart, check the C:\CumulusMX\MXdiags file to see if any errors are logged.

Enjoy,
Paul

Hello again,

After removing the CumulusMX folder from the programs folder and having moved it from the original .zip file to C:/ only, I went back to configuring everything. In the end, I even restarted the PC, but it didn't work again. I went to the folder you indicated and there were some text files, I am attaching the most recent one.

Edit: first file - CMX working, second file - after CMX shutdown

Thanks

If it is just one or more of the sensors not being available you can tick [Sensor check] in Station settings > Common Options and CumulusMX would then continue, but likely that is not your issue.

I am not familiar with your station but Gyvate indicated it should work and for that you will need to do the settings in the WS View App so that CumulusMX can get access to it

looks like either a network, a console setup or combined issue
1. can you post a picture of your WS View page showing the customized settings ? More --> Weather Services --> Customized

2. make sure the entries are made EXACTLY as mentioned earlier (no http:// etc in front of the IP address)

3. make sure the IP address chosen is the IP address of your computer on which CMX runs

4. the path is /station/ecowitt  (no closing "/" or other character)

5. the protocol type is Ecowitt

6.  save your WS View Plus settings for the customized server: top right "save" --> wait for a "success" message to appear

7. usually, when you start CMX for the 1st time on a Windows computer, a message pops up asking for firewall permission
make sure you don't ignore the message and confirm it positively - the message will no more appear later !!!
Sometimes the message can be hidden - check your Windows task bar and all open Windows (ALT+TAB)
You will have to re-install CMX and start it again for the firewall message to appear again - best inside a console window
WINDOWS+R ---> cmd --> ENTER ---> cd \CumulusMX ---> CumulusMX

8. can you ping your console ?
WINDOWS+R --> cmd ---> ENTER --> ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (IP address of your console from your router IP address list)
In the WS View Plus device list you will also see the IP of your console.

WINDOWS means the Windows key on your keyboard (with the Windows symbol on it)

Hello again,

I did everything again, but the problem persists. This time the firewall warning did not appear, I think because I previously allowed access (private networks). I took some prints of the process, even the page where only zeros appear, and I even took a picture of the console ping, as you can see in the attachment.

I'm getting a little tired of this already. I'm already thinking about giving up.

Any errors you find, please let me know.

Thanks

A quick test for your Windows Firewall...

with CMX running on your computer...

Use a phone/tablet/other computer connected to your local network and try and open the CMX dashboard...
http://<ip_address_of_cmx_computer>:8998/

If that works your firewall is configured correctly, if not then you need to add a new in-bound rule to allow TCP on port 8998.

It already works! Thanks mcrossley for the precious tip and to everyone else who wrote in this thread to help.  [tup]

I checked and indeed the dashboard did not appear on my phone. There I looked for the Firewall, I added this rule, and the first time it didn't work. I noticed that there were other rules associated with CumulusMX. I deleted them all and created again, and it finally worked!

To continue working, my PC must always remain connected to the same network, right? Eventually if you need to take it somewhere else, it will stop working, right?

Now that it works, let's see what the next few hours will be like, there's a lot of rain and a lot of wind coming, even my district - Vila Real will be under red warning from midnight (see www.ipma.pt).

Again, thank you very much for your patience.

I wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year 2023!

Thanks
leofe

when you post data to ecowitt.net, CMX can download the missing data if you switch off your PC for a certain time.
For this to work to need to create an APP key and an API key in your Ecowitt account and enter them into the CMX setup.
Your CMX logging may be by the minute, the ecowitt.net download will be in a five minute interval as this is what is stored at ecowitt.net; but at least your gaps created by your PC being disconnected or switched off will be filled.

Greetings everyone,

My weather station sometimes indicates that the wind speed is zero. However, the wind direction changes even though the wind speed remains at zero. Does anyone know what could happen?

Thanks
leofe

Hi,
Sorry, I don't know why it would happen.  Possibly you can check your \CumulusMX\Diags files and see if there is anything logged about what is being received from the station when that happens.  You can also enable "Use zero for current bearing if speed is zero".  in Cumulus Station settings > Common Options to stop an invalid direction:
Quote
[  ]  Use bearing zero when calm
Use zero for current bearing if speed is zero

Enjoy,
Paul

Hello again, I didn't make myself understood well, or maybe I didn't put it in the right topic, I apologize. The problem I report has to do with my station and not with Cumulus. It's something that's been happening to me for a long time, and it's visible in Wunderground's graphics for example. The direction changes, in degrees, but the velocity remains at zero. I already created a possible theory. Perhaps the console only detects speeds above 0.4 km/h, which is the minimum speed. Below that, a light breeze can perhaps move the wind vane, but it is not detectable.

Thanks
leofe

Maybe a light variable breeze is enough to swing the weather vane around but not strong enough to spin the wind cups enough to register wind speed.

I have an Ambient Weather WS-2000 which I think is the same basic array as your Sain WS3500. One thing I noticed is that during a extended period (couple of hours or more) of zero wind speed, my wind direction almost always eventually migrates to an easterly direction. I thought this might be caused if the vane isn't perfectly balanced and my array might not be precisely level. I have checked the level bubble multiple times and it is about as dead center as possible, so I don't know why there is a bias to east during periods of no wind.
