Wifi off for HP2550c.
« on: November 19, 2022, 01:47:42 PM »
Hello,

Mostly for power saving reasons we turn our WiFi off at night.
Is there a way to turn off WiFi on the HP2550c, so that it doesn't search for the WiFi network all night and consumes unnecessary power for no reason?

Thanks,
WB

not sure how much you are going to save ....
the only way I can think of to disconnect the console from its end would be to remove the SSID/password for the router login.
BUT, unless you have another console posting to ecowitt.net, you will miss the night data there.

Have you been monitoring the power consumption for the Wifi hunt?  It is going to be extremely small, Far , Far less then the power consumption of the unit, and especially the screen display.

that's what I meant - no significant energy savings by switching off the WiFi.
However switching the display off during the night (press third button from the left) will save much more  8-)

On a Slight Tangent....
The Wifi in my original HP2551 failed & Ecowitt sent me a replacement.

The original one still receives data from the sensors etc, just can't communicate with the network.
Also can't see any way of adjusting the time.
Daylight Savings is the obvious issue, but the clock has drifted as well & would be good to correct it.

Doesn't seem like there's a manual way to adjust it.
Or am I missing something.

can't you change the time in the setup ?
gear wheel --> Date and Time
select time with the arrow down
you can move through the numbers with the -> arrow and change numbers with the (+)/(-) keys
remove the tag from DST - remove the tag from time server - select the update button and press the (-) button ...

I have set my screen set to go off at night using the 'Backlight' options in settings.  If I am away from home for any length of time I set it to be on for 1 minute a day as that seems to be the shortest interval.  I have never tried telling it to come on and go off again at the same time in case it causes a rift in the space time continuum.
