Does your HP10 get very hot?
« on: February 28, 2024, 12:03:08 PM »
I attempted to install the HP10 garden cam this morning but can't get it to go into wifi setup mode. You are supposed to push down the camera button for 5 seconds then a light is supposed to flash so you can pair your wifi. Never get a flashing light and the camera gets very hot.

Did they send me a bad one? I tried the reset button but no change.

Thanks.

It ended up getting so hot that it was starting to burn my hand. Unplugged and let it cool for awhile. When I turned it back on I got a red light for the first time. Did not get hot anymore but still would not go into setup mode.  Amazon has already sent out a  replacement and it should be here on Saturday. I have already read reviews on here that these camera's are not all that great but figured it would be fine for garden cam and hopefully it will.

Simple and cheap hardware.  And just as easy to install and use.  This is what makes the Ecovitt camera so attractive.  I also ordered, but from Aliexpress.  The parcel is still on the way.  I hope to install a camera on the pier overlooking the river by summer.

Yeah, I hope a new unit overcomes the issue, too hot to hold is not good, although interesting. I would have expected the power supply to crap out before the actual unit got to hot. But, never know

Yep it came in today and no issues- went into pairing mode on boot up.  Barely gets warm now and working great on my test desk.

Will mount by "her" bedroom window so I can get a view of backyard patio where the orange tree & lemon tree currently reside. USB power cable via the window as I already have  the window setup for ham radio cables.

What would be fun for one day is to mount on my chimney and power the camera with a large usb battery and have it on a solar cell. I know wifi is greedy for power so it might not work but I live on a steep hill and get great sunsets.

Hi, were you able to set it up? Had the same problem from my HP10 order. Requested for a replacement and they said they will send an email once it’s shipped. Can I see the updated setup you had, including how it’s placed to the usb socket? Hope to have a better unit soon!

yes I got a new one and it does not get hot. However, it did have an issue where it was periodically shutting down. I think it's a problem with the power connector but has not done it since since I used duct tape on the connector as a strain relief.

Now if I could get the wh57 to stop giving out false lighting strikes ever few hours thngs would be perfect for me.

Good luck. .it's a nice camera just be sure you realize it is a time lapse garden camera, not a streaming camera.

Suggest you start a new thread for the wh57 lighting false reads. You could also search the foum. There are many threads on the false reads.

I'd love to get this fixed if I could. Moved it around the yard at different settings all week. About to try behind my shed and if that doesn't work - try it inside.
