Ecowittweather.com vs Ecowitt.com
« on: January 09, 2022, 11:27:05 AM »
Are these two different divisions or companies?  I’ve purchased from the non weather site and only have just noticed Ecowittweather.com which seems more retail oriented.   Are they faster to ship?

Ecowittweather.com calculates shipping at checkout, ecowitt.com has it in the price.  I have noticed, that for most products shipped to the US,  ecowitt.com is cheaper -- but I didn't do a fully loaded cart to see if there is a breakeven point.

There is also ecowittstore.com (which gets redirected to ecowittweather.com).
Looks like ecowittstore.com is located in Szenzhen while ecowitt.com is located in Hongkong.
They are both the same company though.
Why they have two websites with different prizing approaches - and different availability of goods is still quite enigmatic.

Ecowittweather.com now http://shopify.ecowitt.com, seems don't include tax in their price : "All products in one parcel. Taxation excluded at order, pay additionally after the parcel arrived."  For France - Europe.

That's not very helpful for orders from the EU.
If the price before taxes is <= 150 EUR, Ecowitt can use (and ordering at www.ecowitt.com does this) the IOSS system for EU import from non-EU countries, where the VAT is already paid with the sender (who is then responsible to pay the VAT to the respective EU member country).

If IOSS is not used, the carrier will process the parcel through customs and will charge you an extra handling fee between 6 and 28 EUR (depending on carrier) on top of the VAT.

If the value is >150 EUR it will anyway go through customs where the VAT is collected. Then it is your choice to do this personally (no fee but you have to go to your local customs office) or have the carrier handle this for you (and you pay their handling fee).
In case of not using IOSS for values <= 150 EUR you don't have that choice.
=> this approach is not customer friendly from the sender
Buying at  http://shopify.ecowitt.com is not recommended for EU customers - they better use www.ecowitt.com

I have to order an amount >150$, so if I understand well,  there is no difference between Shopify and ecowitt in that case ?

I already orderer for an amount around 200$ on ecowitt.com without paid VAT after the parcel was send, so maybe it's depend luck to paid or not VAT ?

Thanks

yes - ordering above 150 value there is no difference. It will all have to go through customs clearing.
Customs have become very restrictive - they were losing billions (en Francais - des milliards) of Euro due to VAT cheating, and would give indirect disadvantages to European companies. Hence the change of law on 1. July 2021.
Nowadays, everything goes through customs, except it has been handled via IOSS.
But you can always hope. On ne sait jamais ...

And it's not only VAT (TVA) - beyond 150 EUR extra customs duties often apply. Not for computers or similar electronics. Weather Stations are usually handled like computers => only VAT, no extra duty fees.
