Difference between Ambient WS-5000 and ECOWitt HP2553 ?
« on: January 07, 2022, 10:58:47 AM »
When I look at the description of these 2 stations, they are almost identical.

https://ecowittweather.com/products/hp2553

https://ambientweather.com/amws5000.html

Does anyone know the "hidden" differences between these stations other than price?

Thanks,

George

I was under the impression that ecowitt does not sell the ultrasonic anemometer (WS80)in the US due to a licensing arrangement with Ambient

The websites suggest otherwise - maybe its different for complete weather stations rather than individual sensors

Except for firmware I believe so. Ambient stations can communicate with the ambient web services, ecowitt stations cannot. However ecowitt stations can read ambient sensors

They are the same.  Ambient is the US branded version of the product and has some agreements in place with Ecowitt as to what can be sold in the US.

Ambient products upload to various places like WU and Ambient’s own network, just like Ecowitt does to WU and their own weather network.

Ambient consoles can only read and display Ambient sensors (locked in).
Ecowitt consoles can read and display either (but if you are in the USA, you have to buy some things from overseas)
Hardware is the same and made by FineOffset.

When purchasing make sure to get the proper frequency for your country.

Being in the US I have mostly Ambient displays and sensors but I also purchase Ecowitt gateways (which read both) so I have access to anything I want.

Ambient and Ecowitt have both been quick to respond to any issues I have had.
Ambient Consoles: WS-2000, WS-1900, WS-1200, WS-2902C, WS-3000-X3, WS-0900-IP(observerIP), WS-1001-WIFI
Ambient Arrays: WH65B
Ambient Sensors: WH31E(3), WH31B(2), WH32B, WH31SM(2), WH31PGW, AQIN, WH31LA(3)
Ambient Spares: WH24B(2), WH25B.
Ecowitt: HP2551BU, GW1000B(dead), GW1100B(2), GW2000B
Ecowitt Sensors: WH51, WN34BL, WN34(2), WH31, WH41, WH40
