I also recommend to protect the reflective metal mesh where it is welded to the plastic. Without any protection in those points it develops rust.

DONE ! 1710m slm. at Roccaraso Aremogna Ski Resort
I don't honestly know what will happen to the sensors.
The area has a extreme climate and the wind often exceeds the limit of the anemometer (144kmh). If it works here, i think will works in every place...

You're an absolute lunatic, but fair play, that will be interesting!!

I was half thinking of buying one of these - I have a 7 in 1 Ecowitt station at the moment, but its up a pole. This is perfect for the wind, but any bit of wind and it doesn't pick up rain anymore and vastly undercounts the total. Ideally I'd have the wind sensor up the pole and a rainfall sensor at the bottom but since its all in one, thats obviously not possible.

Is the Wittboy any better at measuring rainfall when it is very windy?

You better use/add a WH40 rain gauge to your array and mount it around one meter above ground - best with a heightened rim to avoid loss through splashing during stronger rain events or combined with strong winds.
The WH40 readings will be preferred by your console over the WH65/WS69 readings (unless your console is a WS2320E or WS2910 model - those are inflexible for wind, rain and outdoor T/H).
For the rim see https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=44074
A HP2553 or a GW1103  station (eventually with an extra WH32 outdoor T/H sensor) will give you maximum flexibility for outdoor sensor positioning for wind, rain, outdoor T/H together with ultrasonic wind measurements.

The GW2001 (Wittboy) is also great but getting it calibrated for reasonable rain readings is a big challenge. In combination with a WH40 it is close to optimal.

at certain elevations the rainfall measurement will always be underestimated, it is not a parameter we will consider.
It cannot be installed at 1 meter above the ground because we do not have the permits to do this, and because the snow would cover it completely. We've choice the ws90 just because it has no moving parts and is built with a single block, so theoretically stronger in high winds and ice.
Other stations with cup anemometers (like davis or others) are useless because, the cups will broken after each winter.
In meanwhile we've experience some RF issue, the sensor suddenly lost contact with gw2000 (v2.1.9) and there is also a bug in the webserver (of the gw2000/1100) that sometimes crash. I got same problem with another station (gw1103) in my city.
Ecowitt tell me that are working for a solution with a firmware upgrade (i hope)

when I checked I could see that both Ecowitt or Weather Spares in the UK have WH31s with 868 MHz available.
e.g. https://shop.ecowitt.com/products/wh31?variant=41418885267618

Is Ecowitt (sun)shelter any good or should I look for something else?

it depends on what you mean by the Ecowitt Sun Shelter - if you mean the RS-00001, then it's rather poor when exposed to sunlight. For protection against debris and rain it is OK. That's probably why it's sold with the WH57 (lightning sensor) as the "new" WH57.

The shields of the WS80 and WS90 arrays, even the WS69 array are not that bad.  WS69  >> WS80  >> WS90 (better towards right).

Of course a MetSpec Rad02 or even a Barani MeteoShield Pro are unbeaten as shields with passive cooling.
A Davis 7714 is also quite good. Davis 7714 >> MetSpecRad02 >> Barani MeteoShield Pro  (good >> better >> best).
The Barani MeteoShieldPro can only take probes (WH32/WH31-EP), not sensors of the WH32/WH31 shape.

The WS90 with a SHT35 T/H upgrade also performs quite well. As a rough estimate +/- like a Davis 7714.

Not arguing, and agree with Gyvate. But also depends what you can live with at what price point.
The units mentioned by Gyvate in some cases, cost multiples of the cost of the actual sensor.

The sensor will be in a greenhouse so no rain or wind.

Davis 7714 and MetSpec Rad02 costs ~190 EUR + S&H. LOL. It's not about the money but the price is a bit ridiculous.

WS80/90 are a full weather station hence completely irrelevant to what I am looking for.
Barani MeteoShield Pro (nowhere to be found in their online shop) cant take the particular product, I linked to, why even mention it?

I'm not saying that this is cheap - it can become a rather expensive hobby - depending on your needs or wishes for accuracy.
A MeteoShieldPro (~240 EUR) has the price of a HP2551 station.

strange problems today..
Yesterday the gw2000 lost the signal from the sensor, than it recovered again but without the data from the anemometer.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
I've re-register the sensor ID and immediately recover the data from anemometer. It's seems (the gw2000) it not decode correctly the wind after it wake up from signal loss....
beyond this, gusts at 150-160 km/h are expected next Tuesday

@GiusCb, if you are experiencing problems like this, I would recommend purchasing an outlet with WIFI and connecting to a nearby WIFI network. A remote control will allow you to remotely reset the gateway and restore the signal. I am familiar with this problem on both the GW2000/GW1100. I have set up in both locations and it helps.
