When does Yearly rainfall reset to new year HP2553
« on: January 06, 2021, 01:51:55 AM »
My HP2553 is still showing my yearly rainfall totals from 2020, do I need to manually reset it for 2021 data or should it automatically do it?

Thanks

The console should already have done the "reset" by itself, i.e. automatically.
It would have happened 00:00 your time zone (time zone set in the console) on the 01.01.2021.

If you haven't updated the firmware this may be a missing feature or bug. I recommend that update both types of firmware.

- WiFi firmware is the simplest to do as you just use the WS View mobile app and it will prompt you to do the upgrade

- Revision firmware requires a bit more manual work. You have to download the firmware from Ecowitt.com and copy the .bin file to a microsSDHC card (it must be SDHC type, any size), and then you insert it into the display console and it will do the upgrade. SHXC and SDUC types will not work.

You must do both firmware types to get all the features and updates as they affect different things in the product.

I doubt the "any size" - the manual says maximum 32 GB, and my tests with the HP2551-C console didn't work out with sizes bigger than 32 GB, e.g. 64 GB or 128 GB.  8-) .  So maybe we say "any size <= 32 GB"  :-)

I needed to insert a 32 GB SDHC microSD before it would start reading the card and the user.bin file.

Also important is that it (user.bin) needs to be copied into the root directory of the SD card in order to be recognized by the console, not into a directory/folder.

So better use 32 GB or smaller.  ;)

It is impossible to have an SDHC >32GB therefore yes..."any size" as long as it is SDHC type. If it 32GB or larger then it becomes SDXC or SDUC type. Which is why I stressed to not be concerned with size....as long as it is SDHC type.

You can get into trouble if you use 32 GB ...because there are some 32GB that are SDXC and that won't work.

I have updated the main display using SD card to ver 1.6.9 as well as using wiFi method but still my yearly rainfall totals have not reset to 2021?

Our rainy season here in Australia is in middle of the year so the unit has rainy season set to June - is it perhaps not going to reset until end of May 2021 - this doesn't sound correct to me though.

Suggestions, thoughts please

Well I was never suggesting that the firmware update would correct the year roll-over that already occurred. The firmware update is only to ensure that the next yearly roll-over would do what it is supposed to do.

Have you gone into the settings and looked at the Rainfall Season month setting? If it doesn't say January, then that is the issue. But if you change it now...again...its just for the next roll-over.

The only way to fix the wrong data now is to go in and edit the data.

Hi again, Ok thanks

Yes so as I mentioned my rain season is set to June in the display so thats why its not reset yet then.

I would prefer to have it by calendar year so to keep the rainfall data for 2020 how to I edit it and not loose the data, I will then change system to Jan for rainfall season

Tks for your help

If you change the Rain Season to January now it will not delete any data now. It is just a trigger for the next time.

But since it didn't reset this past January 1st then the yearly totals that you see now are wrong and the only way to fix that is to manually edit that. Press the Settings gear button until you get to the Calibration screen to make your rain total edits.
