WS-2000 WiFi reset?
« on: May 24, 2019, 07:42:45 PM »
I just received my new ATMOCOM device so ultimately,  I hope to have better control of my own weather data.

I believe kbellis had been beta testing the device earlier this year.

Other than a password issue that was my fault, the device is working fully as of today however when I came back home after a few hours from an errand, the WS-2000 was not connected to the ATMOCOM device or anything else for that matter.

I believe the issue is that the WS-2000 display console is roaming and somehow disconnected from my new ATMOCOM device and was trying to connect directly to my home router.  I thought I was being clever by giving my home router a false password so it would not  connect but it is still trying to connect anyways -effectively bypassing the ATMOCOM device.

In order to capture WIFI data, the WS-2000 console must be connected to the ATMOCOM device at all times in order to work its magic.

I am using firmware 1.40 and the SSID screens are going a bit wonky. Sometimes the SSIDs don't show at all (invisible) but shows connected but if you go into the setup screen ( the one where the SSID password is entered) it might show the status as the opposite - disconnected. Sometimes some SSIDs are visible. Sometimes all of the SSIDs are visible.

I do not see any way to delete/forget a WIFI connection.

Other than doing a factory reset and re-detecting WIFI access points and putting back all of your console settings manually, is there any other way to ensure you are connected to one and only one  SSID?

For now I recommend using firmware 1.4.1 on the WS-2000 console. The newer 1.4.2 and 1.4.4 are unstable.

Another option for you to consider to send data to your ATMOCOM is to get the Ecowitt GW1000 as with the newest firmware it can send data directly to the ATMOCOM as it expects with WU protocol without need to be on a captured WiFi SSID network. This is accomplished in the GW1000 by going to Weather Services and filling in the Customized section and pointing it to the ATMOCOM.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I think I would add 1.4.0 to the unstable list as i was having issues with the WS-2000 console before acquiring the ATMOCOM. Usually, temp/wind would go blank requiring a hard reset (pull the plug!) in order to get things going again. This occurred a handful of times.

I will update to 1.4.1 as 1.4.0 is just not working well for me.

I have since been in touch with the inventor/developer of the ATMOCOM device and he is suggesting a factory reset of the WS-2000 if my console insists on connecting with my home router. The ATMOCOM manual recommends removing all other SSIDs to prevent possible roaming issues.

Once connected to the ATMOCOM, I am happy to report that the ATMOCOM device has been working flawlessly with the WS-2000 and I haven't had to do a factory reset  (so far)of the WS-2000 to get rid of my home router SSID settings.

Interesting thought on the GW-1000. As you can see, I am really avoiding the thought of doing a factory reset but if the issue comes up again, I will do so.

kbellis did an excellent initial review of the ATMOCOM. I'll take up the torch and do up a post about how to setup and use the ATMOCOM with weather templates.
