WH2900 "OZWeather" a tenth of real wind speed
« on: December 13, 2018, 12:03:11 AM »
Greetings fellow weatherophiles.
I bought my WH2900 wifi station as an "OZweather" labelled unit - works fine for everything except wind speed.
It displays (and uploads to Wunderground) wind speeds which are about 1/10th of the actual.
Today I have variously verified wind speed at my place of around 45kph - yet my WH2900 screen (and Wunderground summary) shows 4 and 4.5??
Even calibration (factors of 0.5 thru to 1.5) wouldn't change it by this factor. Any brilliant ideas welcome!
Thanks

Have you checked in your wind speed unit settings?

How high is the unit mounted?  20 feet plus for accurate wind speeds,  wind at ground level is much lower.

Thanks for replying guys....my unit is on a post that's about 2 metres high - exactly the same position as my last WH1900(?) which gave me no problems with wind speed (until it filled up with an ants' nest and stopped working!) During windy weather, it regularly reported speeds of 40 or so kph. My new WH2900 only reports 4 or 5 kph and the cups are spinning madly.
I adjusted the calibration which WAS on a factor of 50% (?!) up to 150%, but even now, it only reports about 6 to 8 kph when I have evidence that at its location point, the wind speed is MUCH higher - around 45kph. My thoughts are faulty hardware.
