2902a display with 1002 sensor array
« on: November 10, 2018, 09:24:03 PM »
I have a 1002-wifi and a 2902a.

I'm using the 1002 sensor array and wanted to have an additional display unit.  I powered up my 2902 display and it started displaying the data from the 1002 sensor array...all good, I thought.

Comparing the numbers shown on the 1002 display vs the numbers shown on the 2902 display, there are discrepancies.

The 1002 display seems to show wind speed more accurately than the 2902 display.  The 2902 display seems to always read a lower speed.

The 1002 display shows the correct outdoor temperate while the 2902 display shows a lower temperature than what's on the 1002 display.

Outdoor humidity is the same.

Rain rate is lower on the 2902 display than on the 1002 display.

I guess my question is if the 2902 display is compatible with the 1002 sensor array? They use the same frequency, obviously, since I am seeing data, but why dont the numbers shown on each display match if they are reading from the same sensor array?

Have you tried Calibrating the 2902a display?   Maybe this will help some,  maybe not.   I have a WS-2000 display and the 2902-Array.  I receive data from the array thru both the display and an ObserverIP module.  Even with calibration,  the display seems to wander off track from time to time, sometimes agreeing with the ObserverIP and sometimes being as much as a degree +/-.  I have tried and tried to enter the same temp values into the display that are showing in the Live Data section of IPtools (that is reading the data as it comes in thru the ObserverIP),  but sometimes they just drift.  It is odd indeed.

I have not calibrated the 2902 display, nor the 1002 display except for relative pressure.

You'd think the display should just show what the sensors are sending ... odd.

Perhaps assume that the 1002 console is correct and only try to Calibrate the 2902a display to the same as the 1002 and see how that works.    Then if you feel the need to Calibrate to a more accurate source you can do so later,  but first get them too agree.

Problem is that the 2902 display isn't always different. Right now this second, for example, both show temp of 46.8.  An hour ago they were about 1.8 degrees off from one another.

I can try calibration, but I doubt that will fix a drifting issue.  And how would I calibrate wind speed and rain fall data without a known speed wind generator and I guess a measuring cup of water?

And as I posted that, the 1002 stayed at 46.8 and the 2902 jumped up to 47.3 then back down to 46.9 haha

OK,  I am running into the same exact thing with the WS-2000 display.  Its almost like you're chasing your tail.  You calibrate them to agree,  and they do for a while, then they are off by a degreeish,  then the agree again.

I really do not like the calibration method of the Ambient Weather consoles.

Is it just your temp that differs or does your wind speed differ as well?

It's maddening lol

I have an ObserverIP and the WS-2000 panel.  Both receiving data from the same single array.  The ObserverIP is much easier to calibrate and reset back to where it was.  If the temp is 80* and you want to make the system report 80.5* just add 0.5 in the calibration offset.  In the WS-2000 console, when you go to the calibrate screen it grabs and locks the current temp,  you the input whatever other temp you want it to be.  And when you return to the home screen it now shows the new temp.  BUT if you want to set the temp back to what it was ... you cant.  (things may have changed) and you cannot simple put 0.00 back in as an offset.  There is no way to reset a single field back to default.  Very frustrating.

So yes,   Not just temp.  Tail chasing has been seen in
Outdoor Temp
Outdoor Humidity
Indoor Temp
Indoor Humidity
Pressure

I have changed any of these - so that they reading agrees with the ObserverIP reading at the Live Data tab,  and 10 minutes later then do not agree.  Very Frustrating.

Oddly Wind has not been a problem.

Just like I suggest calibrating pressure with hpa, I also recommend calibrating using Celsius. This is just for calibration. Once you are calibrated then switch back to Fahrenheit (and back to inhg).
