Davis VP2 Console displays tenths in F
« on: October 21, 2018, 12:38:53 PM »
I was always under impression Davis VP2 console only displayed (F) temperature to nearest integer no decimal.  Old threads repeat this assumption so not sure what has changed  The Davis console will read in tenths for both F and C.
Some threads even saying if you want tenths you will need an Envoy8x.

Maybe this is well known but with other threads saying it won't thought I would share.

1-Press temperature one time,
2- Press 2nd  followed  graphs/units button... this will toggle between C or F keep repeating step #2 until you find tenths in desired F or C.

Mine displays in °C decimal http://www.komokaweather.com/weather/davconvp2CU.php  ;) (and yes, following Randy's instructions on the console it does show decimal)

Enjoy,
Paul

Some threads even saying if you want tenths you will need an Envoy8x.

I think you're getting confused with whether a thread is about the standard ISS or inside temperature, or about temp sensors attached to supplementary transmitters like 6372.

Standard inside/outside temps are always available on the console to 0.1F.

But supplementary temps are only available as integer °F unless  you use an 8X or something similar like an MB Pro Red that is able to process data from multiple ISS units..

Yes could be I was confused but now I can see my other temp/hum stations in tenths also with console. Maybe they don't change is what you are saying.

Even though it shows supplemental stations in tenths it stays on zero. Oh well  ](*,)

Yeah, a real DA move by Davis on that one!  Makes the extra sensors less than useful.  I think this is documented in the LOOP2 packet string.  The other thing that burns me is the battery voltage.

Well, you've got a pretty unique console there then - could be quite valuable ;)

From memory, there are 3 scenarios in which you could see decimal degrees from a supplementary temp sensor:

1. If the supplementary one is being received as an ISS (ie in place of the main ISS)

2. Can't remember without checking, but very possible that suppl. temps show as xx.0°F if decimal degrees are selected.

3. If you have readings set to show in °C then you will apparently see decimal °C values but they will be a slightly irregular staircase of values with each increment corresponding to 1°F.

Neither of my two extra temp/hum sensors report 1/10ths.  Anywhere.

They do show decimals as the image of console clearly shows with transponder #4.  But it's all for show.. I get it now.

"This field supports seven extra temperature stations.
Each byte is one extra temperature value in whole degrees F with
an offset of 90 degrees. For example, a value of 0 = -90°F ; a
value of 100 = 10°F ; and a value of 169 = 79°F"

Same for leaf and soil.  :(  Very VERY short-sighted IMHO.

It won't work on supplemental stations however. IE additional ISS units reporting temp/hum. It shows xx.0 but .0 tenths never changes.

The specified accuracy of the Davis temperature sensors is +/- 1F.  So while displaying them in tenths of a degree might seem impressive the sensed data are not accurate enough to justify it.  Precision does not always equate to accuracy.

Disagree.
BTW, the current sensor in the VP2 is accurate to 0.2C.

ISS temperature specifications is on page six of attached.   It says +/-.5 degree F so displaying to the nearest degree is appropriate for that accuracy.

Even if it was only 1F, I'd still want it to the tenth.

You need 10X accuracy to verify that it meets 1X accuracy.

Thank you. For the life of me, I couldn't think of how to articulate that thought.
