Ambient Weather Issues
« on: August 02, 2019, 03:47:46 PM »
Numerous people reporting Ambient Weather having major issues. Multiple reports of stations being offline and delayed and missing data. Multiple offline and online alerts. As of 13:43 PST 8/2/2019 issues appear to be corrected.
Still ongoing.

They seem to be having issues with the API servers.

Yes I've experienced this too with Ambientweather.net. The outages have been very brief like a few minutes at a time. The log however does not reflect reality because there doesn't seem to be much missing data. There was certainly not a 5 hour outage because I see all the data. This must be just triggered by upgrades and system resets or server changes as Ambientweather.net is being worked on. I've heard some neat new features are coming soon.

These issues have not affected Ambient Weather stations from reporting anywhere else (WU, WeatherCloud or local data access with other software).  The only things affected if they use Ambientweather.net to populate data elsewhere (PWSweather or website API related functions).

Missing chunks of data on the AW website looking at the chart view. WU not affected.

Yes I do see that now....several 10 or 20 minutes chunks missing....like 17 times since about 8AM EDT. Apparently barely noticeable in graph view.

Yes.. unfortunately I was up when all this was starting so I was wondering why I was getting the notification for not reporting, I went all the way up to resetting the console, if only it was more apparent that it was an API issue. Either way at least WU as people are saying kept going and so I still have an archive of data and what went through to ambientweather.net (console power cycling and resetting not included) , glad to know it's not just me though!

That is why I report to 12 online weather services and to a local SQL database. You can't say your WS-2000 has been up and down all day...its just Ambientweather.net. Your WS-2000 could still be uploading to Weather Underground, and WeatherCloud just fine without Ambientweather.net being up. And if you captured the data locally like I am (with GW1000 and Meteobridge or other software) then you could be sending it to even more places.

Ah yes... it's for this reason and more that I want the WS-2000 console among the other must haves! Don't get me wrong, I love my 2902A and all but, damn the 2k console looks damn nice as well! Unfortunately the price is at this moment unreachable for me.

Fair point, I use weewx so I have local control of my data, it is just annoying to have a datapoint with gaps all over.

I agree. I wish weather services allowed editing or catching up bulk uploads for missed data. WU used to allow this but that went away some time ago. The only database you can control is your own. Which is why your WeeWx data is probably the most valuable. For me my most valuable likewise is my SQL database which is available to import to WeeWx or Weather Display or Cumulus or a personal website ...for whenever I get around to it.

Yup,  I have an rsync script that backs up my weewx.sdb every hour to my cloud server.  I always have multiple copies, it is the most important bit  AcuRite does okay with the aceess, as it will cache the data if the power is out and then send it up when it is restored.

Same here - a long period of silence (up to 4 hours!) from Ambientweather.net and Ambientweather app (and Pwsweather). Weathercloud was not effected.
At first I blamed my wifi router and my console, since I still have a problem with the yearly min/max data (https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=37561.0), but when I realized that Weathercloud keeps going as usual, I understood that the problem was on Ambientweather side.

Reading the last 24 hours of data on the graph, far fewer data points are being lost. Only 5 lines of data were missing for my station. Has there been any news from Ambient on this? Any news from Ed?
I saw this short post in the Ambient Weather forums from AW "Ambient Weather Sorry, database issues with IBM. Working on it."
IBM........ hummmmmm?
EDIT: Update. Only one line of data at 11:25 AM today is missing so far. The other 4 missing timelines reappeared.

Second post from AW Ambient Weather
23 hrs
"Sorry about the server issues today. We had a database issue. It has since been resolved and may take some time for your data to catch up."
EDIT: Reviewing previously missing data all seems to have been recovered. 8/3/2019
EDIT: Missing a few lines of data today. 8/4/2019
