I'm not fond of their tactics either. The ForecastFox plugin originally used weather.com as the data source, but switched a while back to using (not necessarily aptly named) Accuweather instead.
I don't visit the Accuweather website directly (only get data displayed on a toolbar) and have a 1-mouseover button to view animated west-coast regional radar.
It provides another data point for the forecast, and doesn't take much real-estate. Like all Firefox addons, you can easily try it and if you don't like it, remove it
Too bad nobody makes an addon that could hook to a PWS like ours..
