Please help me in choosing web hosting
« on: January 04, 2009, 03:31:35 PM »
Hi everyone,
I am sorry for possible offtopic, but I need your help in find new web hosting provider as soon as possible, because my current host (bluehost.com) is kicking me off, they say 'your account is using a lot server resources', but my website gets only about 200 visitors per day and my disk usage is 1500 MB (maybe they do not like that?)

Anyway, what would be your recommendations for getting reliable web hosting? Where are you hosting your websites? Are you happy with your providers?

I am now checking http://www.hosting24.com/ - offer looks very nice, but is it real that they can provide unlimited disk space?
I have contacted them about this question and they say something that "These days 500GB disk drive costs only $30 per month, so if some day we will run out of disk space we will simply add new 500GB disk drive with almost zero costs and you can continue uploading without any problems".

What do you think about it? Maybe things have changed in last 4 years? With my current provider I get only 2GB of disk space for $10 per month..
Any ideas and suggestions are much appreciated.

Check into GoDaddy. I have been with them for a year and have had no problems. Prices are very good and they have great service. My 2 cents.

I've been using 1and1 for a couple years and have no complaints -- just make sure you get a plan that'll accomidate the amount of traffic you expect.

I also use GoDaddy. Have never had the first problem. I purchased my domail there. And by doing do I get free Ad supported hosting. Their paid hosting plans are very reasonable.

Remember. There are tons of choices out there when it comes to hosting.

Thanks,

I'll cast another vote for Godaddy.

No issues what so ever.

I have been hosting several websites on eHostPros and the price, service and support can't be beat. One website has been up for over 5 years.

I use GoDaddy for the domain name and e-rice for the host. For 10 bucks a year for hosting you can't beat it and I've never had any problems.

I was with 1 and 1 for years but just at the end of last week moved to Hostgator.
I haven't been there long but I can say their support has been excellent.
I went with a much bigger plan that I need for my weather site currently as I plan on some consolidation soon
but I have been well pleased with all the features.

EDIT:  After being here at Hostgator for awhile I can honestly say their service and support when I needed it was fast and good!
I still have other sites at 1and1 still and their level of support has also improved from what I experienced before moving this site.

E-Rice.net is the best!

They host many weather web sites and are extremely inexpensive!  No fills!

Have you thought of hosting your own as I do?

I use a Synology NAS with built in web server/php5/mysql. I've got a model 107+, it eems to work fine for me. The unit is cheap, quiet and easy to install - just add a sata drive.

It's best if you have a static IP, but not essential as you can use a free no-ip redirect - the nas auto updates no-ip when your IP address changes.

I'm using GoDaddy also.  So far, no real complaints.

Deluxe Hosting plan is around $7-$8 per month for 150GB.

If you go with godaddy hosting get a linux server host.  There Window hosted servers allow you to use php, but do not allow you to set file permissions on the files and directories that you need to make some of the php scripts work.   <<< I learned this last night.

So get a Linux server and you will be golden.

I have Godaddy hosting and am in their local area.  Occasionally I have issues with their FTP server. Early this morning it was giving me error messages and wouldn't let me upload for about half an hour.

I have used http://www.ixwebhosting.com for about 3 years.  They may not be the CHEAPEST, but they are competitive and don't try to sell you alot.  My hosting is on linux (which I like) but they have windows hosting also.  Their linux hosting is significantly cheaper than their windows hosting.  About 4.00 per month.

OK I realize this post is old now and the author had only written this 1 post since joining the forum...

Sorry to hear about your Bluehost experience as I've been hosting there for going on 4 years now and have been happy with my experience....maybe I'm lucky. I do see a good amount of traffic (relatively speaking for a wx site ;)). The only issues I've had was when a Gallery upgrade went bad. The support was excellent and I got to talk with a real person out of their Utah office. Unless things change for the worse or they decide to outsource their support I don't plan on changing web hosts anytime soon.
