And I thought I went to bed late...

On my work computer I can see my site and Kevin's with no problem. Normal speed display.

Makes me wonder if there was some major DNS server issue yesterday...

Since I saw it on your site Marc I'll ask you.
What is this?
40.9F  Talking about that FFFD in the square. I am seeing this pop up more and more on the internet. Don't know what it is but it seems to come and go from random sites.
Oh by the way, your site loaded fine Marc.

Are you using Firefox?

I've noticed the same thing on my home computer, and it seems to be a problem with Firefox rendering. If I completely close FF, then open, load the page, the funny characters go away...

Can't say I've noticed it here at work, although I'm running FF off a thumbdrive (yeah, IT probably loves me, LOL...)

It's the page's character encoding. Most browser's and other programs will substitute that box when there is a character being called for that doesn't exist in the character set you are using. Mark's page doesn't have a character set defined in the head section so your browser is using your default character set, which doesn't have a character in it for the degree symbol.

There's a better explanation here: http://www.htmlbasictutor.ca/character-encoding.htm
and a much longer one here: http://www.yale.edu/pclt/encoding/index.htm

I don't mean to steal your thread, Marc, but ....

And now it's my turn...

I'm pretty sure no one can see mine as I get only a message when going to it.

If you see this page, it means:

1) This website is not properly configured; OR

2) This website is not alive yet; OR

3) This website has been suspended.

It was working last night and down today all day.  (I did not change anything this time to break it.  Honest!   )  FTP is still working and I cannot find anything wrong when logging in and looking at my files.  I cannot imagine I exceeded my monthly bandwidth though it is a trick to tell since the monitor is not working at E-Rice.   I did not have time to open a trouble ticket until tonight so I guess I'll have to wait and see what he finds.   #-o

Uh oh... and I was thinking about starting an account with E-Rice...

Not to worry.  I apparently had just exceeded my bandwidth usage amount.   #-o

I received the reply back from them this morning that my domain was getting 30,000+ hits per day for the last two months and I needed to upgrade to the Standard 3 package.  Sounds great like my webpage is really catching on right?  Well, I knew better then that from using Stat Counter.  Turns out it has been about 2 months now that I started using the .php 4 second uploads.  Looking in my logs I don't see anything else in there that is really cranking up the numbers but I did find a surprising number of searches for robot.txt all from search engines I'm assuming.  They did apologize for not giving me a notice ahead of time and cited "human error".

I just wish he would get the bandwidth monitor working as that probably would have told me where I was headed and could have avoided the downtime as well as a heads up email.

I cannot complain though as they are still at Standard 3 package half the price I was paying Tripod and I could not use .php at all there.  Plus I opened two trouble tickets at Tripod and never did get a response to them.   Also have less ftp errors with E-Rice compared to what I had a Tripod.
