WS-2080
« on: May 15, 2015, 09:30:56 PM »
Finally had my old station hardware give up after 5 1/2 years. I had a WH-1080 clone and liked its simplicity and the fact it worked. Had a hard time deciding between a Davis and something else, purchased a WS2080 from Ambient off Amazon. Just could not justify the cost of the Davis equipment. The new station came in today and is up and running. Hopefully I can get 5 more years out of this one.

Pretty good "bang for the buck" I'd say. For the price, 5 years ain't too shabby.

Considering I was going to pay over $400 for a Vantage Vue, yes it is a bargain. Once I started reading about the Vue (as well as other Davis equipment) having the supercap issues, it was easy to only spend $115 on this one. I figure I can still buy two more and be even with the Davis...

I think you are right, I have a WS2080 that has been going since January 2012, and all it had is one set of transmitter batteries, and a little cleaning while I was doing the batteries. If it dies tomorrow I am not going to cry about it, I'll just order another one and keep trucking...

I may be the exception, but after 8 years ownership of my VP2, the only thing I've ever replaced due to failure are fan motors, as expected.

That is pretty awesome. I just got nervous reading about all the folks with Vues that had to send it in after the 1 year warranty for repair (fairly expensive). I hope your station continues to run like that for another 8 years!

I've had my Vue for 3 years and had no problems so far. I changed the batteries once and that is it.

You seem to be one of the lucky ones, I hope it continues that way. One of these days I would like to talk to you about your HikVision setup.

I too have had my Vue for a while. About 18 months now and not a single issue. If Amazon was charging $400 for the Vue, well someone was getting rich. You can get them off of eBay for well under $300 for the station alone. Sorry to hear you feel the way you do about the Vue, but remember the old saying, you get what you pay for. Hope this new station lasts the 5+ years for you like the last one did. I have my doubts it will though.

I also have my doubts also, but then again I never thought the first station would last as long as it did. The Vue I found was $405 shipped with the software and USB data logger which was about the best deal I found.
