   Congradulations  8)

A patch cord from the receiver output to the line in of your sound card should be the only other item you need.

Did Mike get back to you? Is he running a preamp?

I will be watching your website for the satellite images. If any questions come up in the meantime just give me a shout.

Haven't heard from Mike. The receiver and preamp shipped today. No shipping info on the antenna yet.

5 minutes with a search engine tells me somewhere in the range of $300US including preamp, receiver and case, software, materials for antenna, and coax. Doesn't include shipping or your time.

I must say this is a pretty interesting/cool idea. I didn't see anywhere that indicated how high you have the antenna mounted. Do you need a horizon to horizon view?

Horizon to horizon is nice, but not necessary, as you'll get pretty much all the image you need.

My antenna is about 4 feet off the roof.

No pre-amp here, and my elevation is only about 60 feet.

Must get up there again and replace the tape with some zip ties for the coax.

Nice weather fax page. I take it you are still waiting on the antenna?

It's a start. I plan to add lots more pictures and commentary.

The National 137Q is on backorder. They are having some kind of parts supplier problem. They hope to ship sometime this week. Because of the uncertainty I ordered a Hamtronics turnstile. The scanner antenna I am using for testing is pretty useless. A circularly polarized wet noodle would work better. I have managed to get a couple of usable pictures from NOAA 17 and 18. NOAA 12 and 15 must be in some type of low power mode. Most of the time they don't even break the squelch when they pass over.

I hope NOAA decides to keep POES APT technology alive for the long term. They have already killed the GOES equivalent WEFAX. The replacement, LRIT, is outrageously expensive to implement.
