ftp Trouble with Meteobridge and Saratoga templates
« on: March 04, 2014, 06:05:45 PM »
I am transferring over to Hostgator as my ISP. I am having problems getting Meteobridge to accept my ftp settings. My Individual ftp settings need to go to a subdirectory /public_html/jeffriesranchweather.com/MBtags.php but when I try to save the settings in the "path" field I save and get this error;

The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

    The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
    If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection
    If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Then it won't send to that path. The default MBtags.php saves fine to the root directory but then the other other scripts can't find it. Do I just need to change setting in Settings-weather.php or somewhere or will that cause grief somewhere else?

Thanks for the help.

Timothy

I've never used metrobridge but have ran into ftp issues before if you don't use the servers actual IP address. You can use the cmd command, example:ping ftp.ipower.com. This will show the servers IP address.

What exactly did you enter into the fields? Can you please provide a screen dump?

template#1 http://jeffriesranchweather.com/gen-MBtags.php    the paths I have tried are: http://jeffriesranchweather.com/MBtags.php  and public_html/jeffriesranchweather.com/MBtags.php. The second one is the path I think I am supposed to be using. When I enter just MBtags.php it seems to work fine but loads to the root directory which is for another website. When I try a test upload I get this screen

The path entry "http://anything" is obvious nonsense. Please train yourself with a FTP upload program on your PC to understand what a path on top of a FTP address is and what makes it different from a URL...  :roll:

Wow ----

I'm sorry, I am trying to teach myself but obviously I'm no good at it. Since http is nonsense is the second choice public_html/jeffriesranchweather.com/MBtags.php any better?

 :oops:

Sorry when being a bit harsh, but I still don't understand the nature of this "problem".

When you use a FTP client like Filezilla at your PC to connect to your FTP server then you enter a host name (without ftp:// or http:// which is by the way obviously even the wrong protocol for ftp) and a path that defines how to drill down from the login directory you start with to the target directory. If that is "public_html/jeffriesranchweather.com/" or something else depends on the structure of your FTP file system on the FTP server. So please, just login and check out, no-one can do that for you.
