Interwarn
« on: November 18, 2011, 06:01:14 PM »
Is anyone able to connect to the interwarn site?   I noticed on the 16th  my map stopped updating and today  it is totally black.  So...  I went to their site  and cannot connect to it.

This is unusual for Evan... and I am wondering if it is just me or  their site is down ....

It's all down. And, you know what will happen. He will reset the server, things will start working again and he'll say nothing is wrong on his end, it has to be our computer clocks or a firewall. Just another stupid day in Evanland.

I dropped him an email letting him know to kick the server.

I know  about Evan, but he has a nice product and I am a dweeb, and not a professional meteorologist.    In Iowa, meteorologists are on the scorned list:

Lawyers
Teachers
Meteorologists
happy meteorlogists

are there any other products that give the current conditions, other than weather display.  that only gives the warning when they come across the net

I use Interwarn, really that is the only software that is fairly cheap and shows Warnings the second they are released. Your best bet would be to go with Interwarn.

Good lord, he is still down.....  I am growing weary of taking the damn image off my site and putting it back only to take it off again

It would be comforting to see a posting that the site is down, he is working on it, some political drivel we all understand.

I'll look in to the receiver...  and I just took down the graphic again... sigh....   I like his product,  it zaps me a message to my android, much like WD does.   I can go with WD  as it aways works for me.

Reminds me of this cartoon.   a dog sits between a tree and a hydrant,   the caption  "decisions, decisions"

But the other sites are up.

I'm still receiving the warnings, watches, etc.

How are you using Interwarn?

In case you missed it above:

Does a whole lot more than just warnings.

I think it's awesome. I've used it for several years now.

I'm getting ready to have it tested for use within our school system. We have about 150 sites it might get deployed to.

You can create groups that you can send to.
I send Watches, Warnings, Special Weather Statements, etc to an email group. I have another group that gets tornado and severe thunderstorm watches and warnings for Georgia only, one group that sends to Twitter and Facebook. You can be selective about what goes where.

These features are provided by Weather Message.

Text message alerting for all computers on your network.
Text message alerting for PDA's.
Visual alerting for all counties in the United States, includes polygons.
E-mail alerts with full text or short message.
Text to speech.
Pager alerts with a short message (TAP, SNPP, WCTP).
Send Fax messages.
Send alerts to Twitter.
View weather graphics.
Selectively print incoming messages.
Archive messages for use by other programs.
Ftp weather messages and graphics to a website.
Control electrical devices using X10.
Receives data from the EMWIN data stream - Satellite or Internet.
Receives data from the Weather Wire data stream. (Option)
Receives data from the NOAAPORT data stream. (Option)
Runs as an add-in with WeatherNode ™.
Executes from your system tray.
Schedule user defined weather messages.
Send messages, in Weather Wire format, to a serial port.
Designed for emergency communication dispatch centers.

I noticed there seems to be an Interwarn outage the last couple of days. I am not getting the warning messages like we used to? The www.interwarn.com site seems to be down as well?

Hmmm... yes it is, I wonder if there is a problem with Comast DNS, the logs say it could not connect to the servers? Maybe I'll add the Google public DNS servers in to my config.

LOL

Nah, it isn't a problem with your ISP's DNS.

You can always setup your own server like I have ... http://www.wxmesg.com/
Your data will then come directly from the NWS and not a second source.
