Weather Station Hardware => What Weather Station Should I Buy? => Topic started by: Afty on September 08, 2022, 06:57:30 PM

I'm looking for a weather station that can record rain, sun, wind and temperature, and can run for up to a month without intervention, ideally saving data to a USB or SD card type source (or similar) which can then be plugged into a PC to analyze the data.
It will be installed in a fairly remote place - I think in a few years we will have network access up there, but for now I need to retrieve the data every few weeks (or less often would be better!) when visiting.
Any suggestions?

Any station you want feeding data into a program like CumulusMX on a Raspberry Pi.
Power needs would be minimal.
You say no network. But there is electricity?
-
No - there's no network or power.
Ideally looking for a unit that is solar powered, and can store the data locally to be retrieved periodically.

Personally, I would set up an actual solar system.

Then your type, quality, and configurability of chosen weather station hardware is opened up.
Options with Loggers that will store data every 5 minutes for 8 days or every 10 minutes for over two weeks are available.
I don't know just off what might be solar powered and offer storage all in one unit.

Hmm, I could potentially setup solar power for the unit - if that were available, what options with loggers would you recommend? Ideally we'd want the option to go 1 month between visits (though normally it would be 1-2 weeks) - every 30 minutes should be granular enough for our needs.

Ignoring cost... Davis VP2 and EnviroMonitor Weather Station Data Collection - Davis Instruments (https://www.davisinstruments.com/pages/data-collection)
Enjoy,

Or alternately with Logger added:

30 minute interval would give 50 some days on Davis Logger.
Other 3rd party loggers are available with similar stats.
If you run a power system with Pi the data would have basically unlimited storage space and accessible wirelessly from your smartphone when you go there.

Thanks kindly for the suggestions!
