Title: Wanted to buy
Post by: K3JAE on December 08, 2021, 04:39:44 PM
I threw my hat into the ring for a BLUE Blitzortung.org Lightening detection kit - but the waiting list is ever long and most likely may be a couple of years, or even longer, for me at 7735 on the waiting list and being in the US.

So with that in mind, does anyone have a kit they no longer use/want that would be willing to sell for a respectable cost or know of a location where I could get a reliable lightening detection kit?

In my area of the world there is a fair gap in coverage that I could easily and would love to fill.

Never thought about selling my unit America :: Statistics :: Station :: LightningMaps.org (http://www.lightningmaps.org/blitzortung/america/index.php?bo_page=statistics&bo_show=station&lang=en&bo_station_id=969)
It is one of the wonderful builds by Don https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=42683.msg436864#msg436864
It just sits there doing its thing but I am not good at tuning to avoid interference.

Enjoy,
Paul

According to the author of the linked forum thread, he sold that a few months back.

On further thought... what would be a respectable cost?

Enjoy,

My idea of a 'respectable cost' would be a price based off the 'new' price at time of purchase, adding in 'new' cost of any enhancements improving upon original design or ability that may have been added then subtracting depreciation and/or normal wear/tear credit based on the age of original equipment deployment date.

So say a item, hypothetically, was originally purchased for $200.00 in 2015. Another $75.00 in enhancements were added... total now $275.00. Item is now 6 years old and most likely is no longer in production in it's original form and availability of replacement parts are scarce if at all available. Unit has been in 24/7/365 use. Allowing for a depreciation of used item I would assume no more than a max cost of roughly $175 with a written guarantee that the unit will work upon arrival in it's present, unaltered state as shipped.

I also would not pay the same money for a used item which equates to being the same price point of a newer up to date model of same.
