Title: Lit up a Lighthouse, WeatherElement-wise...
Post by: SLOweather on December 06, 2011, 06:12:26 PM
This morning we installed a VP2 Plus and WeatherElement Data Hub out at the historic Point San Luis Lighthouse (http://www.sanluislighthouse.org/).

;)  You find some of the most scenic places to install a weather station!

Very nice view indeed! Got a question about the web page chart/graph showing wind speed for the past 24hrs. Is there a decimal point missing on the verticle MPH scale or am I overlooking something here?  Perhaps an auto-ranging scale after a big spike?

That's what happens when the console loses contact with the ISS. It puts out of range values in some of the readings in the LOOP command (like 255 for wind speed). We filter them for at the server the text display and highs and lows, but this is the first site that's been enough of a regular problem to build filtering into the graphing routines. I have that on the list for the programmers.

the joys of dealing with stuff like that

Yeah, you'd know about all those weird little things, huh? ;)

Well, it's located on PG&E property just outside the lighthouse property. Access is via a single lane road controlled by the PG&E Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant guard house (they're armed...). There's also a coastal hiking trail that is a couple miles long. There are usually docents at the lighthouse, and ocean access is up a steep rocky bluff. I suppose a dedicated vandal could access it if he wanted, but it's WAY not ease access

OTOH, it was purchased and donated by PG&E, not me...
