Please check my web address - having DNS problems
« on: October 22, 2020, 10:11:52 AM »
I am having a problem with local people being unable to access my website.

I would appreciate it if you could load my site and let me know if you were able to access it. If you could also list your approximate location, even just the State/Province it would help.

My local ISP has a problem with the DNS not accessing my sites, yet other locations work. I am using Google and Level3 DNS as a work-around on my own router.

Also, there is high packet loss to my site. This can cause delay in page loading. I am more concerned about the DNS issue, since it is keeping people from accessing my site.

Please test this: (same as my signature) http://www.rogerscityweather.com/wxindex.php

Thank you.

Greg H.

Opens fine here, and quick.
There are the usual Valid XHTML and CSS errors/warnings but has no effect on viewing your pages.

OK, thanks. Do you use Charter/Spectrum by any chance?

Charter/Spectrum people, you could change your DNS settings to add 4.2.2.2 and 8.8.8.8 in your router.

This should make it work. EDIT: or use Cloudflare's DNS as mentioned by 92merc.

If you don't want to use Google's DNS, you could run https://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm and pick off a couple that you like and are fast.

I spent a lot of time with both my hosting service and Charter yesterday. I ran some tests and sent the results. From what anyone can tell, it is a breakdown somewhere after it leaves Charter's network. I suspect that the packet loss and DNS might be related and Charter has a partial cache of DNS that doesn't include my domains.

My hosting service says everything is OK on their end. (I believe them)

I dread the prospect of moving everything to a new host... 8-[

Loads very fast, about one second total, in Loganville, GA.
I'm on a brisk Comcast connection, 240Mbps/12Mbps.

I use 1.1.1.2 as my DNS server, and 1.0.0.2 as the secondary. It opened quick.

Personally, I recommend getting off your ISP's DNS servers for security reasons.  Cloudflare doesn't sell their DNS search queries.  And you can add in malware and/or adult content blocking too, depending which group you use.  Nice if you have young ones at home, and it's free.

Thanks for the tip. It seems to perform well.

Thanks everyone for your help on this.

I would greatly appreciate it, if you could complain to Charter about this if you are using them as your ISP and have had the issue accessing my site. E-mail/Chat or Phone.

Clearly the problem is with them for the DNS issue. I have tried multiple DNS as well as accessing the site via my Moto phone and laptop/4G modem. Those all work.

I can live with the packet loss, but this DNS problem is keeping my "customers" from accessing my site.

Rideau Lakes, Ontario here and your site loads quickly on my Pixel using Chrome. Equally quickly on my laptop - again with Chrome. Rogers for the Cell service and Storm for the ISP.

Hope you get the DNS issues figured out.

Only the top half of the Sunrise Side Weather banner loaded for me. The rest seemed OK and loaded quickly after an initial few seconds delay.

Could you try this again? There is high packet loss to my website(s) in addition to the DNS issue.

Your reply was very timely because I did check only about an hour ago and got the same result. What I am seeing is about half of the sun and a blue band immediately beneath Sunrise Side Weather. To me it looks incomplete but then it occurred to me that perhaps that is the design of your banner.

NEW REQUEST:

Could you Charter/Spectrum ISP customers please try sunrisesideweather.com?

The domain registration is through hostdime. I tried using "dig" on my Linux box using the Charter DNS that I pulled directly from the cable modem, and it resolves sunrisesideweather.com.

I appreciate the additional testing..

Hmm... indeed.  :-k

Strange that dig can find sunrisesideweather.com using the Charter DNS addresses. Can you try http://www.sunrisesideweather.com too? I usually don't have any problem without the "www", but it might be worth a try.

Could you let me know the DNS that is used in your area? You can PM me if you want.
