Title: No updated Images at Night?
Post by: waysta on February 22, 2016, 09:45:26 PM
I just realized the last couple of evenings, while the data (temperature, barometer, humidity) update with time overnight, the displayed iOS image does not seem to update.

For example, this evening at about 9:42 pm (EST), the image which shows on iOS has a faint aircraft contrail.  The same image shows on my WU page where it now says the image is three hours old, last updated 11:12 GMT (were are +5 hours UTC).

This is not a terrible problem, Bloom Sky movies are dawn to dusk as advertised.  I just used to glance at them for cloud cover at night for amateur astronomy use, but now I realize it was probably the same image all late evening, bummer.

Yep.

It would be interesting to see how it might perform at night.  I suspect it wouldn't be great, but you never know.

Not taking pictures at night probably helps with the battery life, though.

Talking to Bloomsky support, they may add night time photos to a future upgrade to the app or firmware to the device..??.  For those who run a solar panel, this would be great.  If not, I would imagine the normal 14 day power run would be diminished.

Cool!

I understand the power limitations and battery life concerns, a completely reasonable concern.  Night time images are beyond what they promised.  The daily images and movie are great.

If night time images become available, it might be fun to watch for what clouds can be seen and to follow the moon across the sky ...

If your station is in an area without a lot of night time lighting, it may not be all that useful.

What would be nice is if we had night time pictures when the moon was close to full.  I am sure they could add the moon phases without too much effort.
