Title: Cities data format
Post by: SoMDWx on July 15, 2019, 12:56:49 PM
I am looking at adding additional cities/towns to my GRLevel product but I do not know the data format that this is in.

EX:

24|5|78425|0|2|39.401727|-76.601288|Towson

is for Towson,MD....

I believe this is from the cities.gis file

Hi Jim,

Attached is a placefile of U.S. Cities. Towson, MD is listed.  I also have a GIS shapefile of U.S City Boundaries, but that is a 70MB .zip file.

Thanks John.

I need to clarify my message.

I am looking for the data format of what each field/delimited means in the cities.gis file... I need to add additional communities specific to our region....

Hi Jim,

I think the first 2 columns are related to the FIPS codes. 1st column being the state identifier (for Arkansas it is 005), 2nd column is for zone (Saline county is 125).

3rd and 5th columns I have no clue on. The 4th column "could" be the population of said city.
6th and 7th are Latitiude and Longtitude
8th is city name

I wonder if you could just change the coordinates and the name of the town and leave every thing else the same?
