I tried another power supply same issue. Using the latest fw. Live with it?

I also had a GW1000 that went down multiple times in a day and was ready to put it on a timer to reboot it automatically as a last resort.

I replaced the power supply and moved the GW1000 about a foot/30cm and found the "magic spot". It rarely requires a reboot (pull the plug!) now.

The GW1000/1100 can sometimes do weird things when they lose contact with a sensor..

Keep trying.

I've been running a GW1000 for two years and never had to reboot it. I would look at external factors such as your router refusing to issue a new IP address after the lease time expires, which would require a reboot to force a new DHCP request.

Curious if you are using a Netgear Nighthawk router.

I have 2 GW1000s and both work flawless on the fortigate 60F for days.  However, on the nighthawk they have random issues where DHCP reservation fails as it thinks the IP is still active when it has this event.  The end result is that I have 2 IP instances of a single the GW1000, 1 reserved correct IP/MAC(not working) and 1 IP with a bogus mac(bit shifted) that is working.

I too have solved this issue with restarting the nighthawk network every day.

In my case I eventually came to that conclusion about dynamic IPs and reserved an IP address for my GW1000 and the GW1100. The GW1100 worked flawlessly out-of-the-box while the GW1000 struggled while both were on the same network.

I still subscribe to the "magic spot" theory :)

The ecowitt gateways aren't horribly expensive so when I gave up on the GW1000, I bougt a replacement - the GW1100.

It took a month of Sundays of experimentation to eventually get the GW1000 working but both gateways are curently being used. Still though about once a month or so, a reboot is required.

- using a longer USB cable between power supply and the GW1x00
- place the GW1x000 somewhere where it is only minimally exposed to EMI (electromagnetic interferences), which can be computers etc. (@gzlag's "magic spot")
- using a IP/MAC binding (if the router supports - and it also works ) to create an as-if static IP address

these are the basic pre-requisites to get a GW1x00 work without disturbances

In my case, I am convinced it is the netgear nighthawk router as the issue.  I use it for a wireless, backup powered, segmented network for cameras, and weather.  I know both my gw1000s run flawless on the fortigate, only on the nighthawk do they have an issue.  I need to just spin up another router for that network.

- see picture attached of "ideal" gateway install.

Note:

1.new powersupply. Ok - reviews not so great..something about undervoltage..
2. needed flat surface to rest GW1000 on... is powered subwoofer OK?
3. premium long USB extension with heavy duty cabling ..must be at least 30 gauge or greater.
4. note careful, tidy and well thought-out cable orientation
5. Am I going to move it from the magic spot?
6. Not a chance!

interesting location and situation - but if it works ....  :-)

undervoltage can definitely be an issue

2. needed flat surface to rest GW1000 on... is powered subwoofer OK?
- there are many ways how to fix it in the vertical position - but that's optics
- if the subwoofer doesn't produce disturbing EMI, why not ...

4. note careful, tidy and well thought-out cable orientation
I could think of something else but this bulky, protruding USD plug ....
It's much better solved in the new GW2000 - it also can be wall mounted and comes with a wall mount attached

Why would you if it works ...

Ok, I have tried to use a DHCP reservation now, cant hurt. I have a ASUS RT-AX58U and other stuff works fine.
I changed GW location before too, no change with that.
to be continued..
