Finally got a Davis VP2!
« on: August 01, 2020, 10:52:09 PM »
bought my first station, an accurite 5-in-1, about 5 years ago.  after a bunch of small issues with temperature (fan) and connectivity, it finally gave up completely after 2 years of use.

so, after 3 years without a PWS i decided it was time for another and went with a davis.  our first "real" PWS!

ISS is mounted about 6.5' up on a fence post and the anemometer is on a 20' harbor freight flag pole. the flag pole is braced to the fence post about 9' off the ground.  it will be put to the test in the next few days as the tropical storm heads our way.

Congratulations! You will enjoy the Davis. I have only had mine up since May of 2018, but it has performed flawlessly in all the different weather Kansas can throw its way.

Like your setup also.

Hi and welcome to the forums.

Congrats. I did notice though the wooden post may cover the aerocone from rain at certain times when it's down wind from the post.  Best to move the ISS up to the top of the post so the  aerocone has a 360° view without being blocked.

Hello....

Congrads on the Davis. They are built to Last. I have had my Davis Vantage Vue and it has performed Nicely for many years.

do you have a weather website there in NJ as well? what is the link? it is possible to add a link in your profile so that on the left of this screen next to your name is a Globe icon that can be clicked on to go to your site. click on the globe icon next to my user name to see what I mean. I am located in Northeast USA as well (Massachusetts)

You will enjoy your VP2.  It's about as good as you'll get in a consumer-level weather station.   [tup]

Nice installation.
I also got my Davis VP2 in August.

How have you done with the storms?

no issues with the storms at all. and we had a few decent ones.

the only issue i've now (twice) experienced was a rain not being measured.  both times, during heavy rainfall i might add, i took the cover off the unit, found nothing out of the ordinary, and tipped the spoon once or twice by hand.  after that, it started measuring again.

I agree with ConligWX about the position on the post.
I would consider moving to a position where the cone wouldn't be shielded.

Did you check to see if the unit is totally level?
That's why Davis has built in bubble levels.

When it previously missed recording a rainfall, did it record anything at all during the rain?

Consider placing a manual rain gauge close to the VP2. If it misses again, make a photo of the manual gauge and a photo of your Console or app. This way you will have some proof to give to Davis Support when you call them. Davis is very good about replacing defective parts. Especially with good proof.
