Davis Vantage Vue Bird Spikes

(1/2) > >>

DeanM:
Does anyone have a creative solution for adding Bird Spikes to a Davis Vantage Vue station?  I am thinking of just using some epoxy to glue some wires around the rain collector.

I did basically the same on my old VP2 cone.  I used SS wire and a glue gun.  Glue gun glue is easy to peel off, if you want it off.  But it lasted a few years until I switched to the Aero cone with spikes.

This is some chicken wire I used for my wife's chicken coop. Cut off a piece a few inches wide and wrap it around the top. Used bread ties or something similar to tighten it up. You can make the spikes longer by cutting more of the fencing. Spikes don't need to be long. Just long enough to be uncomfortable for the birds.

I did same as Ocala, but snipped lateral pieces to make vertical pieces more 'spikey'.  Black tape secures it to outside of rain cone.

I have access to CAD software and a 3D printer so I whipped up a design that uses the stock Davis bird spikes and replaces the debris filter thing. It's somewhat inspired by the aerocone's arrangement of the spikes.
It's made out of the same material the Vue ISS is made of (ASA) so I expect it to last the lifetime of the ISS, barring anything that manages to blow it off (hopefully not).
idk if there would be enough demand for it but I think it would be cool if I could sell a few units of this at some point
