web enabled pool water temp hardware
flyingvranch:
Hey all!
I am looking for a water temp gauge that will upload data to a website. I have my own server space or I could also use a cloud based setup if necessary.
I want to monitor my pool water temps on a personal weather page either via FTP or if cloud based, I suppose I could use frames to display the cloud website within my personal website. I am unsure and uninformed about the latest tech available to do so.
Any info would be much appreciated!

Seems to me a simple solution would be to use one of the Ecowitt sensors, plus a GW1100 console/gateway and use the free Ecowitt web site. But data from the Ecowitt gateways can be uploaded to custom servers, if you want, no additional charge.
GW1100: https://shop.ecowitt.com/products/gw1100?variant=41418887856290&country=US¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22055434254&gclid=Cj0KCQjw_dbABhC5ARIsAAh2Z-TSQttUbDOpffI9z04R2R3tZhFSZnIKqHUaod5XEbHWA4v79-yuYU4aAlhMEALw_wcB
Inexpensive sensor: https://shop.ecowitt.com/products/wn30?_pos=1&_psq=probe&_ss=e&_v=1.0
You can spend more money on fancier devices, but there is the basic functionality. Whatever you choose, make SURE you can control/download/capture your data for free. Don't get suckered by the vendors that want to make you pay an ongoing fee to access your data.

Thank you for the helpful info. Yes, I do want to control my own data if possible. That's why I went to the trouble to build my own website and have my own server space. I have a Davis VP2, but it is located 1/2 mile from my pool, so it's of no real use in this situation. I basically want a stand-alone water temp sensor that will send data either to my server directly, or if somewhere else - a place where my web page can access it and graph it.

I set up an Ecowitt temp gauge and gateway. It's working perfectly for my particular application. Thanks folks for the help and suggestions! [tup]
