Firmware version 1.4.1 fixes WU to upload every 30 seconds. I wish it was 16 seconds like my WS-2000 and WS-2902A.

Has anyone tried 1.4.2 which came out last week? I'm hesitant to jump through versions so quickly. But I guess it is a good sign they are working hard to improve things. They really need to publish a change log.

Since everything is working fine it seems, I'm going to hold off till I hear from you all if version 1.4.3 or later is out. I want to test if firmware is incremental one by one or if it can jump and skip multiple versions in one step.

My Ecowitt kit has arrived (nearly). Unfortunately I missed the FedEx delivery and its back at the delivery centre and this means I will have to re-arrange. (Doh!)
The upside of course is that I have a shiny new GW-1000 shipped last week waiting for me with presumably the latest firmware.
As soon as I can unbox and start getting setup I will post here, but I suspect I wont get a chance until Thursday at the earliest and even then it might be just a cursory viewing as it will take me longer to get the Ecowitt version of the Osprey sensors up in its new home.

Great let us know what version it shipped with. Mine came with 1.3.0. I suspect that yours shouldn't be any newer than 1.3.8 out of the box. Then let us know if you can jump straight into 1.4.2 or if it forces you to go 1.4.0, 1.4.1, then finally 1.4.2.

The reason I want to know this is because if some time passes and you don't check for new firmware, I want to know if you need to upgrade once and then be done till the next update or if you need to upgrade and then watch for the next and the next that you may have missed if it forces you to go incremental.

With my WS-2902A console I stopped upgrading at 4.0.3. It kept showing me newer versions over a short time but I never took them. I then finally upgraded to 4.1.1. So with the WS-2902A you can skip versions and go straight to the latest. I'm assuming the GW1000 works the same way. But I just want to be sure.

No problem, I will bare that in mind with both the console and the Gw-1000 and carefully take note the version numbers.
Given there cant be many non Ambient versions of the console (ws2000) around I shall be itching to see what differences if any there between them!

Hi Galfert you were spot on with the GW-1000.
Out of the box the little gadget shipped with V1.3.8 and immediately prompted to upgrade straight to 1.4.2
I did not have to do the intermediate firmwares

Excellent!  [tup]  Thank you for the update. Good luck with your network sniffing and data gathering. I'm sure you'll let us know of your progress.

Here is another thing to try, called Fiddler, and reverse engineer how the WS View app (or awnet) works. This tool lets you see the API traffic of a lot of Android and iOS apps. This can then be used to construct a new mobile app (or a computer program) that uses the same API and get the same data (and command control) to do with the device what you want. This tool has been popular in the home automation community to reverse engineer closed systems to integrate them into device drivers to do more with these systems than they were ever intended to do.
https://docs.telerik.com/fiddler/configure-fiddler/tasks/configurefiddler

I haven't given this a go yet for lack of time.

Fiddler sounds interesting...will have to take a look when time permits.

OK so I have unboxed my new Ecowitt HP2550A and its various sensors and jury rigged it into the garden pending putting the new mast where the old sensor array is and set it up.
First observations and I am delighted. The screen is awesome and I can see why people are pleased with their WS2000 models!

Out of the box the firmware is 1.3.8.
weirdly the Ws View app is suggesting to update firmware to 1.3.1 so I shall have to ask Lucy about that!

I note that the display is showing the PM2.5 sensor data and also the soil sensor I have on test.
Photo attached.
The incredibly small Ecowitt Gw-1000 is great and shows everything sensor wise I expected on the app and in ecowitt.net
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

One thing that has surprised me is that the firmware as is does not seem to allow the HP2550 to upload to ecowitt.net on its own.
Another question for Lucy, though not a major issue as I have the gw-1000 gateway.

I thought you said earlier it prompted you to upgrade to 1.4.2? Make sure with the WS View app that you are looking at the GW1000 and not at your HP2550 display console as the WS-View app can see both devices on the network. Look at the display settings and find the firmware version that is running. If it is anything like the WS-2000 display then there are two firmwares to maintain on the display console...one for the WiFi, that is upgraded via the app, and the other is the Revision firmware that does most of the features of the display and that is upgraded via SD card.

I note that the display is showing the PM2.5 sensor data and also the soil sensor I have on test.

Yeah! I see you on the map with all your sensors. Nice. Your attachments didn't work...says waiting approval...I guess its a new user thing on this board.

You never know until you update the firmware (both of them) on the display console of what it will be capable of. From the Ecowitt map the only devices I see are GW1000. So I think it is safe to assume for now that only the GW1000 has been made to report to Ecowitt.net. I don't know what you would gain from having both consoles report to Ecowitt.net anyway.

Hi Galfert, apologies, did not mean to confuse.
The Gw-1000 is fine and updated to latest firmware as posted when prompted.

The HP2550 though when viewed from the ws-view app suggests a update to 1.3.1 which is odd as the firmware on the console suggests it is at 1.3.8 and wifi firmware 1.2.2
I having trouble with the console staying connected to my ASUS router so I am tempted to try the update and see what happens.
I am guessing that the suggested update is for the wi-fi firmware
Lucy has suggested that's the case and that a new console firmware is also in the pipeline and will be released very soon.

Yes, correct the WS View app only updates the WiFi firmware of the console. The fact that the display says it is running Revision Firmware 1.3.8 is a total coincidence and it is not related to the firmware you saw in the GW1000. For further clarification and explanation of these two firmwares on the display I suggest looking at this thread.

Yes, read that thread.

It does seem that the console (Hp2550) does not like my ASUS RT-87.
I have tinkered with Channel Bandwidth and it improves but is still unstable connection wise.
Also my GW-1000 has seemingly stopped talking to Ecowitt.net.
I shall try an old d-link router as a gateway and see if that helps.

Quick update....

After battling with the HP2550 console and GW-1000 on my Wi-fi I have finally found a stable solution.
I have deployed an old D-Link 655 as an AP.
DHCP is still done via my ASUS 87 and I have made the IP reservation static.
So far so good.

I also updated the WiFi firmware on the console to 1.3.1 though I did that before tinkering and it made no discernible difference to the stability issue.
I am hoping that this will remain stable and will modify this post if all is well.

@MANDRAKE

I see you purchased the HP2550 direct from EcoWitt. I purchased my HP2551 Friday and it should be delivered 14th. Out of interest, how much Import Tax/VAT did they charge if any?

I think I was fortunate and there was no Customs duty or VAT to pay when it was delivered.
Ecowitt marked the package value at 10% of actual and stated samples (which to be fair some of the contents were)

The package was well packed and there was no damage considering the transit across the world. Mine was sent Fed-ex and went HK to Japan to Paris to Stanstead. Everything was boxed within the main box. I have attached a photo, but it does not really show how well everything was packed.

I will definitely look to purchase some additional sensors at some point from Ecowitt.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm impressed so far with the efficiency and communications of Ecowitt!

I've been tracking mine with DHL and it's cleared customs with no notes. I'm taking that as good news on the TAX/Customs front, as in the past with international parcels with DHL, it normally says on the tracking whether there is anything to be paid.

It's got to the UK so quick, I now need to rush and get my new aerial pole ordered and installed so I can get it up and running and replace my old Oregon Scientific weather station :)

I'll keep you posted on how it all goes  [tup]

Some top tips are give the sensor a spray with Dry PTFE (Teflon) to make it waterproof/hydrophobic.
If you did not get them at the time Ecowitt also sells for a few pounds a simple bird spike solution to go on the rain collector.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
I would also suggest that you use Lithium AA cells rather than Alkaline. They should last 2-3 years if you are able to put the sensor array in a sunny place for the solar panel to keep it running.

I like your setup!

When you say to spray the sensor, do you mean the whole thing including solar panel or just the Rain Gague?

I left the delivery sticker on the solar panel when I sprayed the whole unit. My thinking is that will help any snow to not stick or lessen it. I took the Rain funnel off and sprayed that and returned the funnel to the sensor unit.
Obviously its optional, but I think there is definite logic to doing the rain funnel as it becomes more likely that small drizzle will bead up and roll into the tipping bucket than evaporate on the funnel itself.

The metal arm can be got from Amazon UK for approx. £15 and is quite light weight but solid so will not flex in wind. It had a good testing this weekend in the gales with 30Mph gusts.

Great - good to know. I've ordered some of this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183710097378 on eBay and it should be here same day as weather station - Thursday.

I'm going to mount this new station on a TV aerial pole about 6ft above my roof. I'm 265ft above sea level here on top of a hill in West Wales and my current station (Oregon Scientific WMR88) had a Gold award from WOW in 2018 for the readings so must be a pretty good location.

I wish I'd had it and been able to put it up today ready for the 75mph winds we're expecting here over the next few days with Storm Gareth  :?

I don't think you will regret going with Ecowitt (especially given the lack of choice we now have in the UK with the demise of Maplin).
They are directly connected to Fine Offset and as such will be selling all the latest gear and have direct access to engineers and support

One area I am looking at is using the GW-1000 IP logger (Matchbox sized receiver) to provide data for Cumulus MX (Pi Based) so that I can have a local record of weather conditions. I believe it should be possible to read the IP data stream from the Gw-1000 and write out a easyweather.dat file for Cumulus to read. Someone has already done the majority of the hard work to write a script that is used with HP1000 based weather stations and I think it should be possible to adapt for the GW-1000.

Well HP2551 arrived today and within an hour, I had the new mast up and the weather station running and updating my Wunderground (itenby2) and WOW and Weathercloud sites.

I'm struggling to get it to upload to Ecowitt.net though - I've set it up correctly and entered the right Lat/Long and also the MAC address but nothing - any ideas anyone?

I've updated firmware so it's not that.

I presume you have -
Run WSView app
Select Menu
Select Device-list
Select GW1000
Select More
Select Weather Services
Interval is ON and Minutes selected
You have registered on ecowitt.net
Save

Enjoy,
Paul

When I goto Weather Services in the app, there is no mention of Ecowitt.net. It only has setups for Wunderground, WeatherCloud and Wow which all work fine.

In Weather services the first one that comes up for me is ecowitt.net and a notice to Register at ecowitt.net and Open your web browser, go to ecowitt.net or click on the link above.  Enter the MAC address above to register your device. Return to this application, select an update interval and save.

Selecting next brings up Wunderground, Weathercloud, WeatherObservationsWebsite and Finish.

Enjoy,
Paul
