WS90 Temperature Compensation and Calibration
« on: August 10, 2022, 02:24:26 PM »
Do you calibrate the WS90 with Temperature Compensation on or off? I notice when I turn it on the temp goes down a degree or two. Was wondering which way to do it for accuracy.

The main idea is to use this temperature calibration (tag the option) for the calibration to happen via inbuilt software.
This is not a linear calibration. The usual calibration is only a gain (factor) to be entered which will be always applied,
whereas the inbuilt calibration acts differently under different T/H and solar radiation conditions. This effect cannot be reached by a simple factor.

A linear calibration via a gain factor you apply when your temperature sensor has a deviation from a reference thermometer in the shadow, even indoors.
Usually this shouldn't be needed for temperature. In such a case you would apply both: gain and software based calibration.

And the changes you observed is just the (usually desired) effect of this automatic on-the-fly calibration.

So if I'm calibrating indoors to a known accurate source, should I have the option on or off. I understand when it's outside it should be on and will do it's own adjustments. I just want it to start adjusting in the right place.

indoors for the calibration against a known source: off
afterwards when it is outdoors again: on (if you want to use it  ;))

there are a few things to do before activating this feature:

update external sensors to the latest version 1.2.3 (versions prior to 1.1.9 had this option already active by default, so if it is also activated on the gw2000 the temperature will be corrected for 2 times  )

- calibrate the solar radiation sensor (with the factory settings the sensor overestimates, so the T° correction will not be real)

I am on ver 1.2.3 but do not have the equipment to calibrate the solar sensor. I am not sure exactly what I would need to do that. The error you mentioned with the function probably explains my frustrations in getting the temp calibrated. I'll leave it off for now as suggested and wait to they update their firmware.

my calibration is 0.85 on solar gain , i don't know if it will works ok for you

Thanks, I can give it a try and see what happens.
