Register new owner???/How to tune it questions thread.
« on: June 28, 2025, 08:21:23 AM »
Hey All

I purchased unit 1076 from PaulMy

I wonder how to get the unit registered to myself. Is that possible? The link described in manual does not come up on the interface.

I am thinking of trying a location in the attic of my garage. That would be the farthest from the rest of noisy things in the house with only a WiFi router in the garage running all the time and sometimes the lights are obviously on. I have installed the LED replacement tubes in the fixtures. They are the type that just plug in, no removal of ballast. Any idea if those are a known problem?

I will check in later when I have the antenna up and start some tuning attempts.

How do you even know if it detects a strike?

No matter what I set gains to, it is always in Interference Mode.

OK. So it seems to be working.

I had it set to "Don't Send" as I was afraid of sending bogus data.

I decided to let it transmit and it is looking good on the map. It shows "Running" on the stations list. The "Interference Mode" disappeared when I started it running.

It think I can still turn up the gains a bit but it seems to be catching a large percantage of strikes.

It has been a long time since I last posted on their forum, but I can still login to Blitzortung.org with my credentials  I've looked but can't see anything on how to make the necessary changes.

@Cutty any suggestions?

Enjoy,
Paul

I don't think this board is being monitored by many BO participants anymore. I just happened to logon to see what's going on. The best is to post any question on the BO forum.

Paul, I am not a 100% sure as this does not happen very often, but I think you need to logon to your BO profile and deleted the device from your profile. Then David will be able to add it to his.

David that signal you posted looks pretty good.

Thanks for popping by Dries.

With the detector up and running it seems to be recording pretty good hits. 4000+km.

Some more playing with gain I suspect can get even better.

I did join the Blitz board. I'll pop on over if I stumble on anything outrageous.

Sorry, but this thread started but I need some basic help.

What is a 1076? What is Blitzortung.org?

What do the graphs in an earlier post (post #4) show? Fan reactions as another Canadian hockey team loses in the Stanley Cup final? The US has about 350 million people and Canada has about 40 million, but each country had approximately the same number of TV viewers for the finals of the 2025 Stanley Cup—4 million. Obviously, Canadians appreciate hockey substantially more than US residents!  US residents—wake up! It takes awhile to learn the rules, and accepting the fact that fighting by players is the norm, but it is an enjoyable game.

Blitzortung is a precise lightning detection system discussed here https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?board=115.0
Blitzortung map https://map.blitzortung.org/#google_vignette
Number 1076 is the number of my Blitzortung Komoka station built for me by dfroula  [tup] \:D/ in 2015 https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=42683.msg435626#msg435626
and in service until about 2022 when I could no longer host it at our new home :-(  https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=44618.msg453334#msg453334

davidmc36 now owns station 1076.

That is a capture of live lightning stroke detection stats by station #1076 that David is putting in service at his Morewood location.

Unfortunately, even the Blitzortung couldn't capture that emotion.

Enjoy,

..... fighting by players is the norm, but it is an enjoyable game.

It actually holds no interest to me. Constantly trying to knock each other into next week with frequent bare knuckle brawls thrown in? The lack of appreciation for brain injury is palpable.  ](*,)

There is a wealth of information on that forum.

I've gleaned a few tidbits already.

It seems to be working at least in the "Nominal" range I guess. A couple strikes from over 5000km.

It seems to be quite "busy" with activity in NA, Mexico, even Northern SA

I agree 100% re the fighting in hockey. No other sport allows such silliness—the player(s) involved get thrown out and likely get fined or suspended. In hockey, the league looks the other way.

Seems a bit quiet over there too.
