The WLL can buffer a couple of months worth of data for later forwarding.

Cool! So those of us that have the WLL 6100 are covered during any outages.
I also didn't think about the storage I have in my Meteobridge Pro, about 10 years!
I'm doubly covered, although right now I'm not covered by outage offsite storage.
I hate it that WU is no longer good for data storage.

This is a screen shot on their site about the outage,  so hang in there.   Do consider several things,  1. you can look at your monitor, your console .  2. You can look out the window and see what is going on. 3.  they have been real good before this with the whole thing, 4. it isn't their fault, and besides it could always be worse.

Or one can not renew the pro subscription and invest subscription savings in a meteobridge etc to not have single point of failure and be net ahead in few years after meteobridge payback is realized

I have a weather rock as well.If the rock is wet, it's raining.
If the rock is swinging, the wind is blowing.
If the rock casts a shadow, the sun is shining.
If the rock does not cast a shadow and is not wet, the sky is cloudy.
If the rock is difficult to see, it is foggy.
If the rock is white, it is snowing.
If the rock is coated with ice, there is a frost.
If the ice is thick, it's a heavy frost.
If the rock is bouncing, there is an earthquake.
If the rock is under water, there is a flood.
If the rock is warm, it is sunny.
If the rock is missing, there was a tornado.
If the rock is wet and swinging violently, there is a hurricane.
If the rock can be felt but not seen, it is night time.
If the rock has white splats on it, watch out for birds.
If there are two rocks, stop drinking, you are drunk.

The only problem with that logic is the reason I purchased the "Pro" option, to have a constantly updated off-site backup.

A fail-safe backup program must have as a minimum:
1. A local on-line backup
2. A local off-line backup
3. An off-site backup

Doesn't say much for forced cloud based systems and third party reliance

I am reading and working on learning how to run local SW to have data locally.

assuming this is figured out, one could copy/ archive their data off site to google drive etc and will be offsite.

Yep. I guess that's why I choose to not "float into the cloud"... However, probably, eventually, inevitable.

What makes my backup system work is that everything is totally automated.
I know myself, if it weren't automated it wouldn't reliably get done.

I use Microsoft Windows 10 automated backup for my local backups.

All of my local data is kept in my local OneDrive folder.
And my local OneDrive folder is then mirrored in real-time in my Windows OneDrive cloud account.

The beauty of this becomes apparent whenever I get a new computer.
All I have to do is log in to my Microsoft account and all my data is instantly available!

This is what works for me.

I'm back online too.
I can't tell you when it happened though.

In NZ my station went offline at 4.08am and just now (9pm) is back up.   I'm using the WiFi logger and could see the updates in my browser but not on the WL app/online.    It appears to have populated the days data.  I would have thought that an update on the WL home page may have been in order.  All I managed to find online was a tweet by Davis.

Looks like I lost data from 8:05 am to 9:10am CST which did not effect my daily max or min temperature so no big deal. Just checked my CWOP and no data for yesterday.  I am using WLIP.

Yes it is backup, it's not been a good look for Davis being railroaded by AWS, something for somebody to work on

It wasn't just Davis, lots of other services were down too, like Ring, Prime Music, Pokemon Go, Roku, MeetUp.com, League of Legends, Anchestry.com, Chime, and others - https://www.zdnet.com/article/aws-outage-impacts-thousands-of-online-services/

Cloud services are great for getting services up quickly and scaling them, but you are then betting your business on a third party. The penalties on the likes of AWS for outages probably do not reflect the possible impact on your business. But most companies are slim nowadays and want to focus on their core business and not be "IT companies".

Thanks for the link update.
I'm no IT/Software guy but it would seem to me there should be some kind of redundant system that could automatically kick in when issues like this arise. Seems like there was no safeguard for this type of outage. If I was a customer using their services I would want some answers. Or, maybe I'm in the dark and that's not how it works.

The AWS sites are (or can be if you pay) fully redundant with backup and tertiary sites. This seems to have been some sort of systemic failure that affected all the sites in a region.

Good news is that no data was lost yesterday on weatherlink.com after the fact.

Bad news is due to no redundancy on my end lost half day of WU data and my gold star has been revoked.  ](*,)

Thanks AWS...

Does WLL still add missing data at 15 min intervals without a subscription?

I believe so (and assuming that you haven't set a longer interval). The assumption is that wl.com actually logs all historical data but the user only has access to that data if they have Pro (or Pro+ etc).

Sorry, but I don't usually have time to help with individual issues by email unless you are a Prodata customer. Please post your issue in the relevant forum section here & I will comment there if I have anything useful to add.

Probably why all the hi's/low's  and times are wrong on mine then?

i noticed yesterday my weatherlink had stopped updating in the morning. I read on one post that weatherlink wouldn't work on a Mac with OS Catalina, which I have, and then I thought I'd better download WeatherCat, which I did.
I couldn't deal with it anymore last night and went to bed.
This morning, I noticed my weatherlink was updating again and now I'm puzzled...what's going on?
I was happy to see my Weather Underground showing my station online again.
So, do I just leave well enough alone, or do I switch over to weathercat?

Their server went down for most of the day.  Now it is back online as of after you went to bed.   Stop worrying.
