Now that I have moved mine much higher, I get better wind readings, but firmware updates are far less convenient. I don't think I'll be applying every update that comes along - would need a good reason. Makes me wish these could do wireless updates.

Makes it hard for me as well with WS80 & WN90LP mounted at the top. Working on putting and hinge on half way to make it easy to fold down .

bug fixes doesn't say much - pretty shallow with detail

WS80 Firmware V1.3.1 Upgrade 2025-04-16
1. Fixed some bugs.

WS80 Firmware V1.2.9 Upgrade 2024-09-23
1. Optimize the ultrasonic sensor for wind speed measurement.
2. Optimize the wind speed algorithm to enhance accuracy.
3. Add a feature to switch the RF LED light ON or OFF by pressing the CAL button three
times.

WS80 Firmware V1.2.8 Upgrade 2024-04-15
1.Optimize wind speed measurement. To ensure accuracy with the upgrade, a recalibration to
zero is required for it to take effect.
2023.01.20: V1.2.4
Optimize low/no wind speed detection algorithm.

nice view - but regarding wind readings the two arrays sit in each other's slipstream.
Putting the WS80 higher by at least 1 m/ 3 ft and a bigger horizontal distance from each other would probably give better readings.

Gyvate good spotting  [tup]
It;s my fault , I put the black heat shrink in the wrong place ( should have been slightly lower ) it was getting late in the evening and the wife was getting mad at me ( complaining about the height of the mast )  ](*,)
I just wanting to get it up , stop her complaining - now that it up she doesn't notice it

Note: The neighbour's large tree which is not on my property ( but on council land ) currently blocks all Northly wind
Would be nice to get rid off

Hoping to adjust things once we back into spring weather ( and the daylight hours are longer )

Still nothing on the ws80 v1.3.1 update? Don't recall ever seeing an update without more info. Not even a whisper from the normal folks with connections to Ecowitt.

Very unusual.  :-k

Maybe someone who has done the update can tell us what the differences are ??  :?:

Gyvate's normally the one who's likely to have done the update - any ideas Gyvate ?

As per Ecowitt a collection of anomalities reported to and verified by Ecowitt engineers for the WS80, WS85 and WS90 have been fixed for the WS85 and WS90 and have now also been applied to the WS80 (and WS80 --> WS85/WS90).
What they were in detail they wouldn't tell.

I've made a new pipe bracket which will extend the WS80 another 1 metre in height - just got to find it as the wife keeps shifting my things around  ](*,)

Not to hi-jack, but does updating the firmware for Ambient devices (arrays, rain gauge, etc.) make the device look like an Ecowitt device, which wouldn't be compatible with an Ambient console? I would hate to update the firmware for my Ambient devices only to find out that they no longer show up on my Ambient console.
Ambient:
WS 5000 (WS-5000-Array, WS-5000-Rain, WH32B, WS-5000-Console)
WH31E (Outdoor Thermo-Hygrometer sensor)
WH51RF (Refrigerator/Freezer Sensor)
Starpath:
USB baro (barometer)

first of all, apart from a WS80 and WS90 (and WS85), firmware upgrades are for consoles only.
Some consoles use the same device firmware but have Ambient specific sections, so, when a console is identified as an Ambient model, only that portion of the firmware is executed.
At first glance they may look the same, but HP25x0 consoles have features a WS-2000/4000/5000 console does not have - mainly because Ambient considered their customers not to need these features.
Not a very smart move imho.
Also sensor support is different - as Ambient doesn't sell all the homologue sensors to Ecowitt sensors - see WiKi compatibility table and brand model naming table.
The only array upgrade would be the WS80 - you cannot upgrade the Ambient "WS90", the WS-4000-ARRAY with the WS90 firmware as the chipsets are different.
As for the WS80, the Ambient consoles recognize the "Ambient bit" of the Ambient WS-5000-ARRAY (WS80) and will only accept it when present - and won't accept am Ecowitt WS80.
Whereas Ecowitt consoles won't care.
Still, the WS80 firmware upgrade can be applied to both - Ecowitt and Ambient.

Thanks! Exactly the information I needed. In regards to updating firmware with other devices, I thought I read somewhere that the WH40 could be updated, but I guess I must've gotten confused with the model number.
