Who are you most Likely to Believe?

Setting up the WH32-EP (WN32BS) Today

And I have 5 different sensors inside.   They have been set up for 4 hours.

Who would you trust the most?

Sensor:                    T/H
WH32-EP w/probe: 71.4F / 63%
or

I also compared my T&H sensors for several hours as close together as possible (closer than on your picture!). I wrote down 20 values of all sensors with an intervall of about 2-3 minutes and calculated the mean deviation (offset) of all sensors to my reference sensor.

As described here https://meshka.eu/Ecowitt/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=beginners#temperature
... I decided to use my WN32P as "internal reference" for temperature, humidity and air pressure (T&HP). All my other T&HP sensors now have own offsets to that reference.

Quick System Tour so Far

Just finished up the install of the WH32BS (WH32-EP) and did a quick "dirty" temp install of the WFC01 Sprinkler Timer.  It's not a permanent install, I just wanted to see how the sprinkler timer would work. I think it's going to do pretty good for our uses.

Anyway if you're interested here's a quick video I just did of the sprinkler timer and the outside weather station.

My 4 WN31 read within +-0.2C and +-1% of each other, rotating them around etc. Took a few units to achieve this mind.

It’ll do your head in trying to get them to be all consistent  ](*,)

My 3 WN31, WN30, WH32 outdoor, WN32P, ... were within +-0.2°C and +-6% humidity. So at least for humidity it makes sense for me to compare the T&H sensors.

So Help me Understand the Rain measurements of the WS85 haptic sensor.

I have both this rain sensor and the tip spoon sensor of the WS-2000-Array

We have had NO Rain for the past 14 days.  And today ~ Sunday ~ it starts raining.   The WS-2000 reports what I would expect
Event     0.03
Hourly    0.03
Weekly   0.03

But the WS85 records the same rain event as
Event    0.04
Hourly   0.04
Weekly  0.07

I realized the differences of 0.03 and 0.04  are a calibration thing and possibly a location thing,  But What I do not understand with the WS85 is how the Weekly is higher than the Event when it is all occurring in the same calendar  day,  that is all in the past 3 hours, same day on Sunday.   My week is set to begin on Monday,  So wouldn't the Weekly and Event and possibly even Hourly be the same,  as they are on the WS-2000?

Do I need to adjust some calibration in the WS85?  I have reviewed the Wiki, but not understanding this variable

Sadly,  you would not be the first. I have 2 WS90s (haptic) , I far prefer my WH40s (spoon) .

You can go blind in here reading reviews of the haptic sensor accuracy , and how to calibrate, and see many different reviews and opinions. Although the negative ones seem to be more prevalent. And I agree with them as I have my 2 units, which I have given up trying to calibrate. I simply don't use their rain data

Also, shortly after the WS90 was released, Ecowitt updated the firmware on most gateways so you could choose to use something like the WH40 as your primary reporting rain sensor, or the WS90. This is a rare event, as you can actually compare live with 2 rain sensors. So , one has to ponder, why would they do that?, could it be haptic sensor is not ready for prime time, or maybe to be able to calibrate with WH40. Most who have calibrated using the confusing for end user 5 point system, are probably simply using the WH40.

I understand I am using WS90s  , the WS85 was introduced later (less functionality) , but has , essentially the same issues with rain.

Do the WH40s tend to over report or under report?

I have 2, normally they are right on in comparison with my manual gauge. However, if anything , might slightly under report. But this calibration is easy , one value, not 5 . And well within the expected accuracy of the device

Edit:
Downside is that they need to be routinely cleaned , and frequency of the cleaning depends on your environment. If you tend to get a lot of gunk like I do (tons of pollen and other debris), well more cleaning... etc . So best to have at a height that makes it easy to clean , as well. be optimum for readings (not hard)

Even with the new funnel the WH40 beads in light rainfall so no water reaches the tipping spoon.

for many hydrophobic coating (water repellent) of the funnel surface helps ...

Yeah my biggest issue i have China Berry Trees.  Obviously NOT over the rain gauge,  but the produce this little balls a couple times a year about the size of a pencil eraser.  Just large enough that if just one falls in the funnel, (it might have been blow never, carried by a bird ~ they love those things, etc) ... but just one perfectly stops up the funnel.  So a haptic is a better choice for me.

My WS-2000-Array with spoon is on the top peak of the roof,  so it is pretty well insulated from those EVIL  trees,  but even there ... sometimes it still gets one in there, and on the roof it is a pain.

Honestly I do not (I know, what kind of scientist am I ),   But I did just reset all the rain totals for the WS85 to match the WS-2000-Array.  The event is still slightly off, because there is no setting to change that, but now everything is the same.  It has started to rain again, so now the rate is slightly off,  but I will keep and eye on it.

does this happen in spite of the funnel spiral ?
I do not think so as this is an older WS-2000-Array from 2018

Thank you.  Lots of stuff packed in the various Wiki pages

Most seem to be linked,  but not the same page.  Some have some info, and then the specific page has more detailed info. So this is why it sometimes seems like I am not "Checking the Wiki",  it is confusing to me so far (but I am sure it will become more clear as I use the matrix)

Is there a page here on the forum or elsewhere with all available Wiki pages

it's the WH40(H) which comes with a spiral (or Ambient WS5000-RAIN, or 5kRAIN rain gauge).
BUT, it can also be used in the funnel a WS69/WH65 (the Ambient WS-2000-ARRAY).

There is indeed more than one page.
Take a look at the "Table of Contents" from the "StartPage"

You can also use the search field , to help finding specific criteria.
Gyvate has done a great job on the Wikki , but it is rather extensive. I find search a good option to use
Equipment: (I no longer list all, lets just say a bunch)
Ambient: (Various)
EcoWitt: (Various)
Personal Sites: Weather Cam

I would say an "Outstanding" job. I am sure that many on this forum have found it extremely useful.
A direct link from the  index page (https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?board=111.0) would be more useful  than the current link to a link.
Maybe the Administrators would oblige?
