Been lurking a while, trying to figure out what's what, and I think I have it down to the following hardware:
- Ecowitt GW1002 - Separate sensors, plus includes the GW1000, this seems like a no-brainer.
- Some number of Ecowitt WH31 sensors for different rooms such as bedroom and "office".
- MeteoShield Pro - Because why not?
- Bird Spikes - Not sure which size to get, the 10 spike size or 16 spike size?
- AmbientWeather WS-2002 Console - Gives me a nice indoor console and lets me upload to ambientweather.net as well as ecowitt.net (c.f. https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=37760.0). As well, the WS-2002 is the same price as a weatherbridge, and me being me, if I was going to do the weatherbridge, I'd want the weatherbridge pro just because, so this leads me not to temptation.
- WeeWx on Raspberry Pi 4 w/4Gb - because (1) I love tinkering, (2) I want to learn Python anyways, and (3) I should probably do something with all these RPis I have lying around (besides the 2 being used for Stratum 1 time servers from GPS time, ~10ns accuracy ).
Anemometer installation will be rooftop, I have a really shallow roof and was planning on mounting the anemometer ~10 ft up which would be about 8 ft above the peak, on the same pole as my TV antenna, which is ~5 ft up. The antenna pole is properly grounded, and is ~18 inches from the edge of the roof. I could add another 5 ft extension (winegard TB0005) but I'm a bit wary of that, and I'm not sure it would make much difference anyways given the surrounding trees & homes.
Rain gauge might be mounted on a short pole on the facia board so I can service that from the rooftop as well. There is nowhere on my property that is even 1 height away from the nearest object, so it really seems like rooftop is about my only option for that.
I don't know where to put the WH32. I'm in SoCal so I have a white roof (Energy Star rated!) to help keep the house cool, I wonder if that combined with the meteoshield would make mounting off the facia board reasonable?
Does it sound like I've got this figured out correctly or did I miss something?
Attached is a Google Map view of my house, the red flag is pretty dang close to where the TV Antenna is. House is a single story, houses on all three sides are 2 story. Tree to the north is roughly as tall as a 2 story house.
