Can Wittboy firmware be updated via Wine?
« on: August 05, 2022, 10:38:55 AM »
I do not have MS Windows. Dropped MS 15 years ago and I never needed it again.
Now, I like to upgrade the new Wittboy firmware and it is MS Windows only.  :-x
Has anyone successfully used it with Wine?

It should work under linux ( on ubuntu, for example, you should use the dfu-util package ): https://community.st.com/s/question/0D50X00009XkXEBSA3/dfusedemo-on-ubuntu-using-wine

I have not tried Wine but I do have W7 running under Virtualbox on Linux and it works with my WS80 on that so that is another option if you have a W7 system to install.

Microsoft should still have a 90 day trial version of Win 10: https://info.microsoft.com/ww-landing-windows-10-enterprise.html

I just checked and the Linux packages are available for openSUSE as well, and I expect other distros as well.

- Windows 7-11 in any type of Virtual Machine (VM) should work [USB port and driver available of course], also in Docker
- Windows 11 (preview ARM64) installed on a RaspberryPi4B - 4GB will work
or maybe just borrow a Windows laptop from a friend or acquaintance for the update process  ;)

If WineHQ provides the proper USB driver, it could also work ....
