Incorrect time showing in Weather Underground.
« on: August 02, 2022, 05:44:31 PM »
Hi,
I have an HP2550 console sending data to Eccowit.net and to Weather Underground. The issue I have is that the graphs in WU appear one hour into the future. For example, the latest data currently showing is for 09:49 but the actual real time here is only 09:22. This also effects the rainfall reset which shows on the graph at 01:00am.
I am located in New Zealand so the time zone here is UTC+12:00. This zone is set correctly in the console, it is syncing with a time server, and it is showing the correct time on the console screen. The station location and coordinates are correct in WU.
Data on ecowitt.net is showing correctly but the time on wunderground.com is incorrect. The time and time zone on the PC is correct and it is displaying the correct time.
Any ideas on what could be wrong, or how to trouble-shoot this further?
Here is my station:

Thanks for your help, Mark.

The HP2550 does not use WSView for setting up as all of the settings are accessed through menus on the console. However WSView can display data from Ecowitt and WA. The Ecowitt dashboard shows the data correctly, The WU dashboard has the latest update in the future.

correct - WSView (Plus) only shows live data with consoles which have the GW1000 API - otherwise not the console name appears in the device list but EasyWeather-WIFIxxx and only the weather networks can be configured.

What time did you select in the console ? UTC + 12 or (UTC+12) Auckland, Wellington.
The latter also offers a daylight saving time adjustment which being selected or not is responsible for the difference, as the console posts in UTC.
ecowitt.net might consider and WU not ...

You can try to connect your console's custom server to @olicat's ear service (http://ear.phantasoft.de) and see what it posts and how this gets translated.
That could provide more insights.

If everything looks consistent, it's probably a WU issue. Maybe the "Manage your home location" in the WU settings of your account has an impact ....

Maybe living at/near the IDL produces the issue and has not been considered completely in the software at the WU server end.

Thanks for the reply and suggestions..
I tried changing the console to just UTC+12 but this made no difference. We are currently NOT in daylight saving so the local NZ time zone is just +12 anyway. I used ear.phantasoft.de to confirm the data being sent has the correct UTC time.
I also tried changing the 'Home Location' in WU but that says it 'will be used as the default location on the home page' and it did not change any displayed times/data.
After digging deeper, I can see that this issue effects all stations in New Zealand so as you suggest it has to be a WU issue. It appears that they are applying an incorrect offset to get the station's local time, which is what is displayed on the graph. There is a station time zone stored in WU which is captures when a station is created and is not editable. Mine says 'Pacific/Auckland' which should be correct.
I have emailed WU so will let you know their response.

Mark.

After confirming more details I recieved this from feedback@wunderground.com

Thank you for this information, Mark!

I have passed it along to the development team, who will get it into the queue to be fixed.  I hope you will be patient with us while they work on this and other issues.

Thank you for being part of the Weather Underground community!
