a) it holds very long
b) the battery status can be seen in the WSView and awnet app (doesn't show with a WS-2000 console or a HP2551 console)
in the Live Data view and in the sensors ID view

so wondering how to know when thr battery for it is getting low
I have been using my WH57 since May 2nd, 2020. So far, the battery status has remained unchanged at the maximum: "5".

As far as I know, the only battery indication is the station itself not other sensors? All I see on mine is batteries ok one the outside weather unit itself

1. @olicats observation confirms mine - very little battery consumption
2. if you look at the picture, you see already four (4) battery symbols - so your knowledge needs updating  ;)
But, on 2nd thought, the live data cannot be seen in the WSView/awnet app for a WS-2000, only for a GW1000 - you only see the sensors in the console.
And in the WS-2000 console there is no battery status, only reception indicators.
So unless at Ambientweather.net there are battery status indicators for your device (they are there at ecowitt.net though for all Ecowitt consoles), you can't see the battery status at all.
I don't know the ambientweather.net site so I can't tell.
3. the "station", the sensor array (usually station = outdoor array plus console + indoor T/H/P sensors) has a blinking light, but that only shows the transmission.
The solar charged super-capacitor once fully charged can run the array for up to two days. The batteries are just a backup for very adverse conditions - very cold + very little sunshine.
Still good to exchange them after two years to avoid leakage.

Ambientweather.net has a battery status tile. But it is not very granular, mine just says "All batteries OK"
Ambient:
  WS-2000
  PM 2.5(2)
  WH31B(2)
  WH40E
  WH31P
EcoWitt:

  WH31(2)
  WH57
  WH51(12),
  WH40
  WH5360B
  WN34S

As with AmbientWeather.net if you look on Ecowitt.net you will see a tile with battery status for your sensors including the lightning sensor.
In addition on the Ecowitt.net site for your console or GW1000/1100 you can set an alert for low battery status and have an e-mail sent etc

Other than that you will have to look at the live data presented on the WSView mobile app which also shows battery status

Ah yes good point for those without a GW1000/1100 or equivalent.

If you are using other weather software, some of these that take data from the console also now look at battery status, though so far I have not seen an effective take on that yet!

The weewx Interceptor driver can pick up the custom server data from the HP2551 console including the battery status info. It's up to the user to display them properly in a skin (web interface) by making the proper entries in weewx.conf, skin.conf, index.html.tmpl and the respective *.inc files.
The soon upcoming CumulusMX 3140 will also be able to pick up an Ecowitt (and WU) custom server posting where the battery status is included (but I don't think it's displayed yet - a few more possible entries for Mark to add on the extra sensor page  ;))

Yeah, at the moment Cumulus will just alert you to a low battery "somewhere" on Ecowitt stations, you then have to go an check where. Better than nothing but could be improved.

If you are not seeing the data on Ambientweather.net then its likely that your WS2000 needs a wifi firmware update and/or a console firmware update.

12 months old I know, but WTH ...

Battery condition has just been prioritised for me by the failure of my rain sensor, might be sensor failure, might be dead battery, but it would be nice if I could have looked back as recent history of the battery's condition, nicer still if I could set an alert ...

I too have added to a prior suggestion on ecowitt.com forum.
