How to water proof outdoor cables
« on: January 23, 2021, 10:27:27 AM »
So I finally got this camera running but now I have these cables exposed to all the weather elements of South Texas minus snow. Anyone have any suggestions on how one might waterproof these cables?

That connector set up is a drawback of this camera.

For mine I drilled a hole in the barge board and passed the whole thing inside under cover. I put an access panel in the vented soffit right underneath to access the reset button.

I have a bigger box at school for the rain gauge heater etc.

Another solution is to mount the camera on the underside, upside down, where you see previous screw holes. The camera interface should let you flip the image. Then the cable connection should reach to not be exposed. These cameras are designed to be flush mounted where the connectors are inside of the building.

Get something like https://amzn.to/3d8bOh4 and then mount it to your awning. Then mount the camera to it, and stuff your cables inside. They will be protected from the elements in the waterproof junction box, just like you would electrical wires. You can drill a tiny hole on the bottoms to allow condensation to dribble out, should it accumulate due to temperature changes.
