Help with Davis USB connection in Weather Display - UPDATE
« on: February 11, 2021, 02:33:47 PM »
Hi all. I have a Davis USB datalogger and I cannot get WD to see it and communicate. I downloaded the driver from Davis and in weatherlink, it sees the data logger just fine. I then set it back to serial port and exit the program. I then turn on weather display but it does not see anything at the com port. Any tips would be much appreciated!

does the virtual usb to serial port show in windows device manager?
make sure weatherlink is set to serial mode
if you had set to usb mode, then the data logger is set to USX express mode, which is then like a HID USB port instead of a serial port
there is a utlility convertor program included with the weatherlink software installed programs that you can run to convert it back to virtual serial port

Yes to all of your questions. How do I get to the utility converter program to convert it back to a virtual serial port? Thanks for your help!

if its yes to all the questions then that would mean its already in virtual port mode and so no need to run the convertor
but I suspect its not yes to all the questions?
what shows in windows device manager, ports?

If you are already using the USB logger with Weatherlink for Windows then you cannot use it for any other software. WD will not see the USB logger if some other program is already talking to that COM port.

I found the utility CP210x USB to Serial Data Converter utility in my WL folder and ran it. It seemed to reset the data logger and shows it to be com port 3 in the device manager. I have weatherlink turned off. I start up weather display and set the com port to 3 and it appears to be getting some data but not all. The outside temp and wind speed and direction is not reading for some reason.

With all of this said, is there a way to reset Weather Display to start up a brand new station? I don't care if I lose any old data. I just want to start with a fresh new station and data set.
Thanks again everyone!

Thanks everyone for the help and advice. I did finally get WD to connect to the Davis VP2. I also downloaded the latest version from their website and all of the data input worked after that.

It had been a few years since I used WD so it was a learning curve all over again. I'm getting old...

WD is great. It is not often you can have the author of the software offer to help out.
