Title: SaratogaWX is back...
Post by: saratogaWX on May 05, 2018, 06:58:49 PM
Sorry for the delays in replies to queries.  The wife and I just completed a 17 day cruise from Ft. Lauderdale to San Francisco via the Panama Canal on the Holland America ms Eurodam.  Since Internet onboard is both expensive and exceptionally slow (satellite link), we had to limit access and I was away from the home system for debugging assistance on problems encountered with my scripts.

I'm working through emails, PMs and forum posts now to see what might be needed.

We had a wonderful time, and the Panama Canal transit was awesome.

Best regards,
Ken

Outstanding Ken; glad you and your wife took the time and also had a good time, well deserved I'm sure.
Welcome back!

Hi Ken

Glad you had a good time. I went through the canal in 1985 while in the navy. Wondering if  you went through the new locks? Are the new locks roughly the same area as the old locks? Thanks for the continued support.

We transited through the original locks as the ms Eurodam was just below Panamax size.  The new locks were being used by larger container ships that were wider than the original locks could handle.

The new locks are a bit away from the original locks but adjacent.  See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_Canal_locks for details.
