Millibar chart question
« on: April 24, 2022, 08:23:23 AM »
Does anyone know what these numbers are supposed to represent on millibar charts? I’m assuming it represents the pressure in millibars, but I’m not sure. It doesn’t say anything about it on the legend.

That is an 850 MB upper air chart (constant pressure chart).   Upper air chart contours represent the altitude of that pressure level (in this case 850 mb).   The numbers typically represent the altitude in meters.. With the 850 mb chart you would add a zero to the end of the number so 141 would be 1410 meters (around 4624 feet).

See https://www.weather.gov/jetstream/850mb for more information.
