new firmware for WS90: v1.3.2
« on: March 29, 2023, 09:24:15 AM »
Hi!

For the WS90 is a new firmware available: v1.3.2.

Changelog WS90 Firmware V1.3.2 Upgrade 2023-03-29
  • Optimized for rain condition wind measurement algorithm, overcome issue that sensor stop reading wind when water comes to the transducer surface
  • Optimized for MODBUS version so that active measurement command is included for faster reading speed. The fastest measurement can be up to 8 sampling per second
  • Battery voltage measurement is possible when heater 12v power is applied for hardware version after v2.0. The early version prior to hardware v2.0 will not be possible to measure battery voltage when 12v external heater power applied
You may find these files also on the Ecowitt product page for the WS90.

Add:
Just updated my WS90 (early backer delivery) from v1.25 to v1.32 - no problems or oddities.

Hi Oliver

I know you may not know, but is there any way for an end user to determine what hardware version they have ? (not firmware) .

Hi!

Unfortunately I have no idea - I only have ONE WS90. @Gyvate might be able to tell you more - he has two as far as I know.

As I have 2 , one bought from the Kickstarter effort   and one later , recently , I don't see a way to determine that. I was hoping, someone may have a clue ...

Hi!

Why don't you put them both on a scale? Maybe there is a noticeable difference?
If there are no visible differences on the outside ...

Updated without a problem as well.

Interested to see the note about the wind measurement when the sensor gets wet. I live in a windy and rainy place but did not notice that wind measurements drop off during torrential rain. Anyway, seems like a small update.

True, not sure my digital scale is accurate enough though to make a public announcement after I weigh them to ascertain version.

We all know, there should have been some marking, or a very slight difference in transmission , that could be picked up.  Purchase date, kind of works unless you have new/old stock, or received during a hardware version transition.

This is similar to the WH40s, early ones don't transmit battery data, newer ones do. A simple version marking is all I ask of F/O in this regard. It applies to other sensors as well, WH41s etc

maybe this helps - afaik is (one of) the difference(s) between hardware V 1.0 and 2.0 the number of rain detectors - see picture red circle / yellow circle

I had this issue, loss of wind date for several hours after strong winds and rain, since updating to v1.3.0 and reported it to ecowitt in february. They advised then, of an upcoming firmware update.

I have a GW2000: V2.2.3  and WS90: v1.3.2. and a Davis Anemometer 6410. Early days but I have noticed since the WS90 v1.3.2  update when the wind is from  the East the wind speed  and max speed is fair bit higher compared to the  Davis Anemometer. When the wind is from the West WS90 is only slightly higher wind speed  and max speed. Anybody else have this problem. When I say wind direction is  from the East or West it could be 45  degrees or more.

just to be clear.... version 2 is the Kickstarter and beyond version?

As I'm especially interested in this as I purchased a Kickstarter version.

3. Battery voltage measurement is possible when heater 12v power is applied for hardware
version after v2.0. The early version prior to hardware v2.0 will not be possible to measure
battery voltage when 12v external heater power applied.

Battery voltage measurement is possible when heater 12V power supply is applied for hardware version after v2.0. ?

Do you know how this information will display and where on console or one of the 2 applications, since my update I have variations on the graph of the front battery always stable at 3.28v

the charging status of the connected sensors (including a WS90 array if connected) iwill not be displayed in numbers on the consoles. In the WS View Plus app you can see the battery charging status as bars (between 0 and 5 bars covering the respective voltage of the sensors). Different sensors have a different charge display logic. Numbers or status you can see on ecowitt.net if your console is registered and posts there.

You can see the values either via the Customized server function posts (all consoles) or via the local API interface for the GW1x00, GW2000, WH2650, WN19x0 consoles and for the WS2320E console via its dedicated local API.
Those consoles who have an inbuilt webserver can also be queried via the http API through http requests.
This applies for weather observations and charging/battery status of connected sensors.
