Davis VP2 & VVP & TCP/IP
« on: August 28, 2014, 07:50:43 PM »
Hello All I am having a problem with my Davis VP2 VVP WD VW and Weather link. Whats going on is I am trying to run all four with TCP/IP instead of using the Virtual Serial port emulator.
My reason is either Cumulus or VVP is freezing up and I am losing weather data. So I have the TCP/IP working but now I am seeing intermittent tempeture and wind speed direction on all of the programs but weather link. In wunderground it says it's updating at 1 or 2 sec intervals but still no temp. Anybody have anything on this. Computer running win 7 64bit

Thanks
John

Well I might of stumbled on the solution, I closed weatherlink and it all now seems ok.

It depends on if you have a new (green dot logger) or one of the older ones.  I don't remember at what firmware version the change occurred. There are several threads about it. I am too lazy to look it up.

I have the  older firmware and have no problem.   Those who updated just to update seem to have regretted it.   Assuming you are a VVP user.  I have never understood why people don't want to use the tcpip mode.  It far more stable than the com ports.

Well I am hoping for more stable :-P I can honestly say I would of done it sooner if I had the knowledge of doing it. I found this post:  http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=6431.0 which helped out the most. I have Cumulus and weather display running and all is good, lets hope it stays that way. I would only get around five or six days then freeze up and lost data.

I used to run Cumulus, WD and WL all on TCP/IP but found that WL does not like playing with the others as you have found out. Since I stopped using WL (years ago) I've never had a problem even with the latest logger/firmware. WD and Cumulus are quite happy together.
