Looking for web cam software recommendations.
« on: November 13, 2014, 11:55:16 PM »
I am looking to run two (but maybe three) cameras. I want to use 1 piece of software with the lowest CPU impact possible. The cameras will probably be of different brands. I want 1 cam to take an image every 30 minutes, the others every 1 or 2 minutes. I dont need FTP I just want to save the image as a jpg I have other methods of doing the FTP.

IPTimelapse from SebecTec (my software) can do that.  It is low CPU as it does not stream the video - just get the snapshot at the interval you need.  sebectec.com/ipcam

I have sought of solved my problem, I had a license for WEB cam XP and had lost my license code, I saw a post that suggested emailing them and it worked so now I have that running, Gives less impact on CPU than i expected.

If you ever need cam software that you can time lapse with..... I highly recommend IPTimelapse from Sebectec.

Mike provides excellent product support and the software is flawless IMO.

Hi,
As an alternative to Webcam XP, I would like to suggest ISpy, a very powerfull open source software.
http://www.ispyconnect.com/
I have both of them running on my page
http://www.meteo-saint-brevin.fr/webcam.htm
ISpy provide the pictures to 3lapse who make the timelapse
Best regards,
Marcel

I've used WebcamXP/7 Pro for years.  Wanta see what you can do with it... and a handful of Logitech C920/C910 cams?
start with this link
http://ourspecial.net/twinhollies/still/seq.html
then try the stream links...
Now, you can see the CPU%  and total memory used on cams 1,2,3 in the bottom right... that's image processing, drawing graphics, FTP, all the WC processes used. Cams 4 and 5 data is near top left.  (different machine)

(Yeah, need to update the bottom page nav slightly... but has nothing to do with WC)

I have a Reolink rlc-511w camera that I like except for its motion detection. It doesn’t have an active electronic motion detector but uses firmware frame-by-frame comparison that causes many false detections due to wind or light changes.

I’m looking for a Unix based webcam software that I can run on my NAS to override the camera’s motion detection and provide a better solution than the camera’s.

EDIT: Currently looking at Ispy Agent DVR v3.2.6.0

I have Three Reolink RLC-511W IP cameras currently capturing jpg images and FTP to my website.  I run BLUE IRIS 5 and BLUE IRIS TOOLS for the weather overlays.

Scudwatcher:
I am looking to replace my Panasonic webcam that died of old age. I have been looking at Reolink IP Cameras. How do get your cameras to upload images to your website, is that done with Blue Iris?
How do you get to overwrite the previous uploaded images?

My Panasonic camera had a build in web server which addressed those issues.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

PS. Nice images today on your website.

Regards,
Tom

Hey Tom,
Sorry for the delayed response!  Thanks, for the compliment!  Yes, I utilize and run BLUE IRIS 5.  BI5 uploads a current snapshot image in jpg file format to my website every 10 seconds.  You can email me directly at:  csraweather@hotmail.com  and I can send you screenshots of the BI5 configuration dialog boxes, if needed.  I have four REOLINK RLC-511W IP cameras.  I love the 5MP image and the night-vision is so awesome!  Be aware though!  You MUST upgrade the latest firmware to each camera through REOLINK SUPPORT website, or you will have connectivity issues.  I learned the hard way!  Good Luck!

Bill:
Thanks for the feedback.

Now I have a plan.  [tup]
I am going to purchase a Reolink IP camera and kick the tires.

I don't need to stream video, just want to upload an image at least once / minute. This should keep my Internet bandwidth usage down and secure me from hackers.

Best Regards,

Folks:
Several weeks ago I purchased a reolink E1 Zoom IP camera after some helpful advice from WXForum users in this thread. I also purchased Blue Iris v.5 software to perform the uploads to my web site. I have been testing the setup to determine if there were going to be any issues. Well I ran into a problem; my Web Host: FASTCOMET sent me an email notifying me about my bandwidth usage. They stated my monthly usage is at 75% current usage 24318 MB, Monthly Hosting Quota 30720 MB.

I am uploading (posting in Blue Iris) one jpg image / minute. The file size averages 3.5 Mb. I just changed my posted image quality to 50% in Blue Iris, the file size is now down to .7 MB. I hope the file size change resolves the bandwidth issue.

Has anyone else run into this problem with their web host? I can upgrade my hosting package (double the bandwidth quota) but that will cost an additional $10 / month.

Any thoughts or recommendations are appreciated.

Just one thought really.

Yeah, 3.5 was a huge file size for weather web cam type stuff.

I think I push like 300k or so images.

Thanks for the feedback. I thought the image size was quite large.
I now have to monitor my web host and see if the reduced file size is small enough.
Stay tuned.

Gentlemen,
I am also pushing 300kb size images (640X480) with no issues with my webserver (IONOS), so far.  Tom, I struggled with BI5 receiving "NO SIGNAL" error messages.  I have installed IPTimelapse Pro.  Took me awhile to configure my four webcams, but now, IPTL ROCKS!  So far, so good.

Folks:
I finally finished setting up the web cam.  [tup]

The camera is now live on my website.
I had to reduce the image quality to reduce the file size. The image size is now down to .5mb.

It was a lot of trial and error getting the configuration right with Blu Iris.

Thanks to you folks for your suggestions on setting up the camera.
